“Another excellent restaurant in Kyneton”

Wonderful, food, service and atmosphere. You ant go wrong at Annie Smithers and the menu always offers something a little unusual and always seasonal.

You must have a reservation but if you cant manage that even the bar food is wonderful! The best burger I've ever had.

“Underwhelmed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

After reading a rave review and having a lovely experience the night before at the King George Hotel down the road a bit from Annie Smithers, we arrived with high expectations. The first negative was ordering a Diet Coke, only to be told they didn't serve it, but the could offer me a lemon, lime and bitters. What the...? Who doesn't serve soft drink? So I was left with water as my only option. Strike 1. The food was delicious, but while the wait staff the night before were personable and friendly, the wait staff at Annie Smithers were most standoffish. When will restraints realize that the thing that costs them nothing - friendly service - is the most important make-or-break thing?

“Never fails”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013 via mobile

Excellent food presented well and very tasty. Have been coming to Annie's for years and love it very time. The wine list is extensive and compared to most inexpensive. Great front of house staff who are knowledgable in both the food and the wine. Thanks for making every visit special.

“Simply the best”

We have eaten at Annie's many times over the years and have never had cause to fault a thing. The menu is simple yet delicious, the wine list just a treat and the staff knowledgable and helpful without being overly fussy.

“An "Average" experience became "Poor" due to rude staff”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

Having heard and read a lot of very positive reviews about this place, our group were all left underwhelmed and a little annoyed by our experience of Annie Smithers Bistrot.

The food started well and we all later agreed the scallops (entree) had been the highlight. The mains (mix of steaks & fish) were very "middle of the road" in the sense that nothing stood out about them, leaving us hoping that desserts would be better. They weren't, with the profiteroles being particularly disappointing - all ice-cream and very little choux.

The wine list was decent and the Paramoor 08 Pinot was good value - on a separate note, it's well worth a visit to that winery.

The experience became worse as a general undertone of rudeness from the staff was confirmed after we asked for a quince (or like) jelly to accompany the harder cheese on the cheese board. "No, you're supposed to actually taste the cheese" was the response we got. And there we were thinking we were the customers...

All in all, the food is average-to-good, but the hype is unwarranted and the staff need to drop a level of pretentiousness obviously developed from the positive reviews they've enjoyed.
