3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2010

An interesting house, intricately (and extensively) decorated with antique furniture and period knick-knacks. Our guest room was clean, tidy and small, and the ensuite was tiny. The continental breakfast was spartan, and you are expected to do your own washing up. As far as I could tell, there were guest "rules" posted in every room of the house, although I must admit I was afraid to move around the house much, in case I clumsily broke something.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for two days and were made very welcome by the hosts Helen and Brian. The rooms are beautifully decorated and extremely clean. I would have no hesitation in recommending this B & B to anyone wanting a relaxing and rejuvenating stay. The kitchen facilities for guests are very good and the T.V. rooms are lovely to sit and either read or watch T.V. and be warmed by open fires. This is a lovely place to stay and the town of Koroit is worth a visit. Totally charming!!!

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2008

From abroad, we made our reservation by email, but this took some persistence, requiring followup by phone and fax. Some of this was due, said the owner, to our using an incorrect address, but this address is that shown in the website and, 3 months later, still is. The correct address is said to be: [--]. One gets the feeling that email is not the owners' first line of communication.

The Inn, which was originally a hotel, is situated in Koroit's main street, opposite the pub and the post office. It is a sprawling timber building, with an iron roof and the whole thing has been the subject, over the last 4 years or so, of a Herculean refurbishment by the personal hand of the owners, Helen and Brian. It's interesting to hear what that have done, the scale of which is a credit to them. Externally, it's still not finished, and in fact looks a bit dilapidated. But the painting continues (never-ending, I would say) and the roof was due to be re-ironed any day, said Brian. Inside, the refurbishment is complete throughout and, as a result, you step into a Victoriana time-warp in now-impeccable condition. It's heavily-decorated and furnished - it's really 'full', and will not appeal to minimalists, shall we say. In addition, heavy curtaining and large rooms contribute to make the interior rather dark, even gloomy, especially in the public rooms. I would assume, though, this would assist with keeping the place cool during hot weather.

There are 8 guest rooms, impeccably furnished to the last detail, and carefully provided with folded towels, etc. Not all have ensuite bathrooms, but all the bathrooms are newly-furbished in modern materials. The bed in our room was a 4-poster, and we found it comfortable. Our room faced the side, to the garden, and was pin-drop quiet. Some rooms face the street and are thus likely to be affected by traffic noise.

There is no air-conditioning in the building; there was a portable electric heater in our room. There is no tv in the bedrooms, but there are two tv lounges, both very comfortable. There is a utility room with a fridge, microwave, sink, etc., for guests' use. There is a nice lawned garden to the side, with seats, and a small, modern, swimming pool.

A full cooked breakfast was provided by Brian, and very nice it was, too.

We had need to stay in Koroit and the Olde Courthouse Inn served us well, in its rather quirky way, and we enjoyed the friendly hospitality of Helen and Brian. If you like Victoriana, you'll enjoy your stay here

  • Liked — Friendly hosts, interesting building, very clean and tidy, comfortable room
  • Disliked — Email communication needs improving, interior a bit dark
