I had read the previous comments, however on this particular evening there was little in the way of choice on our Kilmore stopover whilst travelling back to Melbourne. It appears we dined on an eveing where the service was good and the food was better.

I had a risotto from the specials board and my wife had a porterhouse steak with salad and chips. Both meals arrived in a timely manner despite the busy night and only a couple of staff on duty - they were attentive and polite and were able to answer questions about the menu without resorting to the kitchen. The steak was cooked exactly to order. Pricing was in line with what should be expected for good country pub fare.

I would state that the dining room is tired but appeared clean and seating was such that even with the room almost full the noise level was okay for a casual conversation.

Overall, we had a very satisfying meal and I would recommend this pub for a casual dining experience in Kilmore.

Waiting staff were attentive to our group of 10. We ordered our drinks from the bar and the waitress collected our meal orders. The food was good as far as pub food goes - nicely cooked calamari, the prawn dish smelt delicious, lamb shank and steak were enjoyed by those eatting them. The salad had a nice dressing - it may have been the Paul Newman Honey Mustard Dressing. Alcohol was much cheaper than in the city. Macnamara's definately has the charm of a small town pub.

Macs is another of those Irish themed pubs. Check out the olf wooden overhead inline fans for a bit of an unusual twist. There is a dining room or you can eat in the main bar. They have a pool table out the back. On alternate Thursdays and the second Sunday of each month they have some locals in for some live music, in a folk/Irish/bluegrass theme.
The food is honest pub fare.
