“A week in a caravan can be a long time when it's cold, wet, windy.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2012

We have just come back from the caravan park at RACV Inverloch resort. We probably didn't have particularly high expectations as really there isn't a huge difference between caravan parks - packed in like sardines & hope like hell you don't get a ranter or snorer next door.
Well, me of little faith & huge cynicism was absolutely proven wrong.
The caravan park is set at the back of the resort in a beautiful treed setting. The sites are spaced very well apart, with trees and bushes dividing each site.
We had an ensuite site & were very grateful to have our own beautifully clean, bright bathroom.
Next, the camp kitchen; this is beautifully set up with ultra clean BBQ plates & hot plates, full-sive fridges, large very comfortable dining setting & a TV.
When 2 Winnebagos that looked like they were straight out of a Lucille Ball movie lumbered up the hilll we wondered if they would overshadow all of us. But with plenty of space at the top of the park they fitted in just fine, even though the camper trailer next door suddenly looked built for a family of pygmies.
But, back to the cold, wet, windy weather; what other caravan park can offer full access to:
- a stunning view of wild rolling seas as you sit back & enjoy a beautiful coffee in front of the fire in the most salubrious restaurant
- full access to indoor pool, billiards, air hockey, tennis
- a short stroll through beautifully maintained parkland & bush to a restaurant serving excellent food that wouldn't be out of place in a 5 star Melbourne restaurant
- a kangaroo & joey visting each evening
- more birds than we could possibly identify
What was the downside?
We're still absolutely useless at catching fish, we can predict that if we're going on holiday the heavens will open, and one week is simply not enough time to really enjoy this resort and beautiful surrounding areas.
We'll be back !!

Room Tip: We didn't stay in a room.

Pleasantly surprised by our accommodation. Excellent views and spotless, comfortable oceanfront room.
Had a lovely dinner in our room. Only disappointment was the included breakfast. Arrived at 7:45 am (opened at 7am) and no eggs at all. Virtually finished my breakfast before any were put out on the buffet. Pancakes were very rubbery. That aside, I would definetely recommend this accommodation. Staff were welcoming and helpful during our stay.

Dear Valued Guest

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay with us. I will certainly pass on your positive comments for all staff to see.

Your feedback regarding the breakfast buffet has already been passed onto the Executive Chef and his team to invetigate and rectify. This is definitely not our usual standard and comments are generally very good regarding our breakfast. Our apologies that the level of quality was not as it should be on the morning of your breakfast.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Resort in the near future.

This newly established resort (2007) is a bit out of town (about 6km drive) and is located on top of a hill, overlooking the magnificent ocean. In between the resort and the beach is a petite lake with an impressive walkway around it.
Ocean is about a 10min leisurely walk. You have to cross the road but it is not very busy at all. And, surprisingly, there is almost no road noise (we stayed in a premium ocean room overlooking the lake and the ocean).
Bistro is clean, efficient and commands excellent views of the ocean. Just sit there and look outside; you will not be disappointed.
Food was good, matched by excellent service.

With new facilities, an excellent indoor heated pool with sauna, lots of playing gardens for kids, superb walking/jogging tracks inside the property and around; and a short ride away from the busy town this was a truly memorable holiday place for us.

Strongly recommended.

Room Tip: If you have kids check out the jumping pillow (a massive jumping playground (safe)) and flying fox...

Thank you for your feedback and comments, we were glad to see that you enjoyed your experience and the facilities at the Resort during your recent stay with us.

Our new Cabins have been very popular since their opening late last year and their natural bush setting certainly adds to the experience.

We would love to see you at the Resort again in the future and once again thank you for your feedback.

For other readers - we have a range of accommodation, with and without ocean views, to suit most needs.

The resort is brilliant. The resort is located approximately 5 km from the centre of Inverloch and accessed by pre-arranged complimentary shuttle bus from the V-Line bus stop or via the Cape Patterson Road.

My wife, two children and I stayed in a two bedroom cabin. The cabin was spacious, well designed and a pleasure to stay in. I found the use of double glazing and blinds that completely block the light an excellent feature. The cabin has a full kitchen and all the other modern conveniences. The children woke to see kangaroos grazing outside our cabin, a wonderful surprise. There are playgrounds for the children, an 'inflated pillow' trampoline, games rooms, gym, sauna and a 25 m and toddlers swimming pools. I would have preferred Salt water chlorination as the water stings your eyes or maybe the chlorine levels weren't correct.

We ate three meals at the resort, all of which were a complete disaster. There are multiple issues; including ingredients, coordination, price, and cooking skills.

Dinner in the Bistro: Served an hour after ordering. Luke-warm soup and bland flavour. I do not mean lack of seasoning (I prefer no salt as I can add it myself) it simply comes down to poor skills and sparse use of ingredients. Steak ordered Medium Rare arrived Medium Well Done to Well Done and was cold, especially compared to the other items on the cold plate. Requested Hot English mustard but was presented Australian mustard which was described as Mild English mustard. So that the kitchen knows; Australian is sweet, English is salty in comparison. To not have Hot English mustard in a bistro that serves steak is unforgivable, even the "Scottish" establishment can provide an equal assortment of condiments to this bistro. Kangaroo ordered Rare to Medium Rare (emphasis to ensure NOT overcooked as Kangaroo becomes tough) arrived Medium Well Done to Well Done (in the centre of the fillet a slight pinkish to mostly brown colour) was luke-warm and INEDIBLE. Salad dressing, too sweet. Other accompaniments seemed OK in comparison. Decided to NOT to order desert. Wine list was good and our choice was very nice.

Breakfast in the Bistro: Price vs Quality - what are they thinking? Available is either Continental, Full Buffet or induvidual orders. We tried both the Continental and the Full Buffet. The fruit is either canned or fresh, neither of which were any good - the canned pears were hard and the fresh fruit was unripened. The usual Danish pastries out of a packet seen at 1 star motels. Egg choices untouched by diners, looked awful. Oily Pork chipolata sausages. Watered down Pineapple "juice" and the usual Orange in colour only, homogenised pasteurised pulp less "juice" that tastes like the plastic container it came out of. No Soy milk. Some sort of blueberry yoghurt experimental drink - plenty left for the rubbish bin. The bacon was all right. Bland muesli, no Weet Bix and missing was my favourite - Tomato juice. Surely the local bakery could provide nice pastries and the local butcher for pure beef or chicken sausages. In comparison to RACV reciprocal clubs and other hotels overseas where I have had breakfast, the standard at Inverloch is embarrassing.

Lunch at the Pool Kiosk: 6 chicken nuggets and chips at $9 a serve for the kids and a pizza for us. The cook should travel down the road to Aldi supermarket in Wonthaggi where it is possible to buy frozen chicken nuggets made from real chicken breast in a tempura style batter for a reasonable price. Instead, the nuggets served were a vile concoction of soy protein and unmentionable chicken offcuts in an oily crumb coating. They failed to meet our young children's nugget connoisseur taste. At most fish and chip shops, minimum chips is approximately $3, the pool kiosk equivalent must be $0.95c. $9 for nuggets and chips - never again. Pizza was awful. Requested very little cheese and well done, received lots of cheese and underdone - ate one slice and binned the rest. Same suggestion for cook, buy frozen pizzas at Aldi.

We loved the actual resort, however, the dining experience killed what should have been a world class stay. RACV needs to look long and hard and improving dining. Tourists and RACV club members expect both the accommodation and the dining to compliment each other, especially at a Victorian Tourism Luxury award winner.

I strongly suggest dinner at the local pub, or if you like Japanese, Tomo Modern Japanese restaurant provides a world class excellent standard. Buy breakfast requirements at the local supermarket. Eat lunch at the local bakery or the fish and chip shop in town.

Thought I'd give this a try instead of the local motel but came away underwhelmed. The decor is very modern (read inner city Architect "trendy" with fake timber features and similar touches) but not much else to relieve the all white walls and ceiling other than the dark floors and some similarly dark furniture. Stark 'daylight' energy saving globes in every single lamp provided a cold, harsh light; apparently they haven't heard of the 'warm' versions. Problems locking the sliding door when leaving (the only access point); not very reassuring. Purchased internet for the night but had to walk over to the main reception and it couldn't be done via wireless, nor was there a Cat 5 cable in the room as that also had to come from reception. Got the cable but both securing clips were found to be broken and it didn't fit securely into the network port or the 'hub' under the TV. Turned out the internet didn't work anyway, so after 3 calls to reception and no one on site to help after hours I gave up and they refunded me the money but were apologetic. If you are planning a walk to the reception after dark, take your own torch - the one provided in the cupboard was flat and would not work - you will need it because many of the interconnecting paths are not lit. Nice setting, friendly staff, very quiet, lovely views - it could be so much more if they paid attention to the smaller details.

We absolutely love this place and come back every year for a short break.

We stay in the Premium Ocean View villas, which are fantastic. They are very well equiped, spacious and have awesome views. The only potential improvement would be a BBQ on the deck.

The pool is fantastic. One of the best we have come across.
