One of the hidden gems of Healesville, this restaurant is concealed behind the old facade of the hotel. As many have said, nothing outside would make you want to enter and explore what looks like just another country hotel, but once inside the transformation of the old Melba Room into a new bistro is a sight to behold.
We found the service friendly, attentive and the food excellent. The presentation is also very good.
The only complaints may be 'summer only' in nature; firstly the late (low in the sky) evening sun blasts in through the open folding doors and on a hot day (like when we visited) that is something that can be very uncomfortable. The old guy-wires for a patio blind that still remain out in the beer garden suggest the previous operators had a solution for this. The other thing was many flies which entered the bistro area; not sure what can be done about these if the huge doors are open but it needs looking at.
One of the better choices in Healesville for an evening meal.
