One of the hidden gems of Healesville, this restaurant is concealed behind the old facade of the hotel. As many have said, nothing outside would make you want to enter and explore what looks like just another country hotel, but once inside the transformation of the old Melba Room into a new bistro is a sight to behold.

We found the service friendly, attentive and the food excellent. The presentation is also very good.

The only complaints may be 'summer only' in nature; firstly the late (low in the sky) evening sun blasts in through the open folding doors and on a hot day (like when we visited) that is something that can be very uncomfortable. The old guy-wires for a patio blind that still remain out in the beer garden suggest the previous operators had a solution for this. The other thing was many flies which entered the bistro area; not sure what can be done about these if the huge doors are open but it needs looking at.

One of the better choices in Healesville for an evening meal.

We first saw the hotel from outside and had no thoughts of going there - a real basic looking local pub. But on talking to the local butcher he recommended this place for dinner.
What a surprise on going inside. Very smart and great service from the chef/wait team - all updated inside. The manager had a v-good knowledge of local wines and suggested a great Yarra red.
Excellent pub/bistrot food (having dined at some very good local winery/restaurants that week)
Seriously don't be scared off by the tired/shabby external appearance. Our big tip for Healesville!!

As previously mentioned arriving at the hotel you think OMG. However, the Bistro food was great as was the wait staff (Carol and Marnie). The rooms were OK but nothing flash considering the price (old fashioned motel room which has a tart up). The knob on the fridge was broken and the bathroom pretty ordinary. The big disappointment was in the morning when there was NO hot water in any of the rooms. As the owners/managers are not on-site had to settle for cold shower!

Was there for a birthday on 7th Jan for 12 people. The weather was perfect and entrée's were served in the beer garden and mains at our table in the bistro.
The waitress Carol was on the ball with wine selections and attentive service and food was great . Everyone was very impressed.

Arriving at the hotel i thought to myself, OMG where am I staying. When I entered the reception it was absolutely beautiful, the room was newly renovated, fresh and clean, there is a little courtyard with your own privacy, the bathroom is spacious, new and clean and the restaurant is so cozy. It is only walking distance to the main shops. I would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.
