Owner description: Healesville Sanctuary, in the heart of the Yarra Valley, is world-renowned as the best place to see Australian wildlife in their natural habitat. Set in a beautiful natural environment, the Sanctuary offers a place for people and animals to reconnect with nature from creek to canopy, and plays a critical role in saving some of the world's most endangered animals. Explore the 70 acre bushland haven to experience close-up encounters with some of Australia's unique and endearing wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, wombats, emus, dingoes, birds of prey and platypus. Visitors are also free to explore the Australian Wildlife Health Centre, a working vetinary hospital treating over 1500 orphaned, ill or injured wildlife every year. The expert team shares the journey of animal rescue, rehabilitation and release with the Sanctuary's visitors. Don't miss: Spirits of the Sky: A free flight presentation featuring Australian raptors such as the Wedge Tailed Eagle, and colourful parrot species. Tales from Platypus Creek: Come face-to-face with Healesville Sanctuary's most iconic species in a world-first interactive Platypus show. Observe Platypus as they interact with keepers, play in the water and even enjoy having their tummies tickled! Wade with the Platypus: In this world-first, hands-on experience it will be your turn to be the Platypus keeper. You will have the opportunity to step into the shallow water of the 'Platypus play pool' where it's normally the keeper's job to play, frolic, tickle and feed our little furry friends.

We liked the way the habitats were set up and the obviously well cared for animals. A great showcase for Australian wildlife.

This place is great. Not too far from Melbourne. It makes for a great day out. You will get to see many Australian animals up close. The Platypus show is informative and you can see this amazing animal up close. You can spend a few hours walking around the different pens. There are coffee vans situated throughout. The shop has some good reasonably prices items to take home. You can pay extra to get up close and personal with some of the mammals. Kids will love it
The entrance fee is $26Aus for Adults a bit steep but all profits go to the running of this Sanctuary.

My partner & I were thrilled and privileged to wade with a platypus at the wonderful Healesville Sanctuary in the Yarra Valley of Victoria. For $180 you can experience a once in a lifetime experience of touching and playing with one of these cheeky little mammals. The cost also includes entry into the sanctuary. It might sound expensive but platypus are expensive to feed (yabbies, shrimp etc) and really how many times can any of us say we have been that close to a Platypus. A real once in a lifetime experience. The rest of the sanctuary is very interesting, including a animal hospital on site which you can wonder thru and of course many other fascinating native animals. The cafe serves a pretty good food as well. I would recommend this sanctuary to anyone. They do great conservation work.

Just an hour's drive out from Melbourne, take the opportunity to explore the town and this fantastic sanctuary. Set in bushland setting, it's as natural as it gets. Remember to buy tickets for the meet the echindnas. It was great fun and we learnt so much about this gorgeous animal. The visit to the Wildlife Hospital was also fantastic. We saw actual procedures and surgeries on wildlife and learnt a few things about how to manage injured wild animals. Great cosy half a day out for families. Loved it.
