Healesville Hotel
Ranked #7 of 21 Healesville B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 11, 2008

The Healesville Hotel has everything going for it: huge old-fashioned bedrooms that haven't been divided up to accomodate poxy ensuites, wonderful dining room with really good food , a really interesting food shop next door that could have only been put together by people who genuinely love and know their ingredients.
It is not perfect: on the night we were there one of the two bathrooms was out of order and the other is probably a bit cosy for a whole hotel full of guests (we were there on unfashionable Tuesday, but I did wonder what it'd be like on say Friday night). Their meet and great is pretty average (surely the first thing you say to a guest isn't "can I see your credit card, please" - maybe something like "Welcome to the heaslesville Hotel, let me show you your room, where have you come from, here is the bathroom, when you've got a minute we'll go through the formalites..." would have been nice. Especially as the waiting guest with suitcases has to stand in the dining room a while feeling self conscious.
And there was one other gripe: a really toxic exploded garbage bag near our car when we got in the next day. Unfortunately the garbage is stored next to the guest car park?!
BUT I would like to point out that the staff who were rather odd when we arrived were really nice the rest of the night. We had a great time. This is not an expensive hotel, the room was much better than a motel for the same price and they have a wonderful product/concept. Bit of slack management but with luck by the time you stay they'll be a bit more vigilent.

If you are travelling through Healesville with family or young kids, give this place a miss. We travelled to Lake Mountain last week and decided to eat in Healesville. As soon as we entered this restaurant the service was very poor. Whilst the staff talked amongst themselves we were left waiting for a table. When we eventually gained their attention, we advised them we needed a table for 7. We were told there was one and they agreed to make the table up so we could pop out to the car to get the rest of our family. As soon as we reentered with a child 2 mins later we were told the table was no longer available. The lady stated that another person who owned the retail shop next door was sitting in the table they had for us and although they had fine dining tables available next door we could not use those tables as it did not open for another half hour. There was 1 person sitting at the table of 7. Although we shared we had woken up our child to come inside, she was unsympathetic and made no effort to try and find another table for us - with the exception of offering us a table which was outside in freezing weather!!!!! There was no apology, no real effort to help us find a suitable table indoors.
Eat at the pizza place down the road, great service, food and they go the extra mile.
