This was one of the best place we stayed while on our Great Ocean Road trip and into Victoria. The staff were really helpful, the place was really clean. Really close to everything and sat outside and saw kangaroos. The staff were really helpful with things to do around the area and where to eat. Tip: Book a table if you want to have dinner at one of the nice restaurants! The view out the back was amazing and really relaxing, end to our holiday.

Room Tip: Choose the back rooms, great view!

I really hate to give a bad review since the lady who served us at this place was really nice and friendly but...
We stayed 2 nights in Room 6 of the lodge. I really did not like the fact that the place had very dim lighting. But one single event really spooked our stay here. The TV in our room turned on by itself exactly at midnight for the 2 nights that we stayed there! And the best part was that after turning itself on, it would revert itself to the mode which basically shows a fuzzy white/black/grey screen. SPOOKY! Both my hubby and I were shocked awake for the 2 nights there!

The room itself was clean and the fact that it cost less than $100 a night are PLUS points... but, I wouldn't stay here again...

What a lovely place; so glad we stayed here! Peggy was so friendly and welcoming and made us feel very welcome and well as recommending hikes, restaurants and things to do. The lodge is situated off the main road and as other reviewers have noted, absolutely surrounded by nature! The magpies, kookaburras and gallahs make a great background to your stay. The rooms have sliding doors at the back overlooking a field with 'roos and the birds perch on the fence right outside. The decor and style is homey rather than fashionable but everything is absolutely spotlessly clean and tidy. There's a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities and breakfast can be brought to your door in the morning if you so wish - we got some amazing muffins from a bakery right around the corner. On our recent holiday we stayed in some quite upscale places, but this was our favorite place bar none!

Room Tip: The best rooms are on the back of the motel overlooking the field and hills beyond. There are some r...

After run a number of reviews and looked at holida bochures I decided to add Halls Gap onto the end of our Great Ocean Road trip. Having read the previous reviews I decided Kookaburra Motor lodge looked like a good place to stay and we weren't disappointed!
We arrived mid afternoon and were given a warm welcome and a couple of recommendations (and a map) of where to go that afternoon to see wonderful waterfalls and wildlife (great advice when you are short on time). The room was clean and tidy with a veranda overlooking the fields behind (which had wild kangaroos jumping around) we were able to park immediately outside our room and we were a short stroll into town where there were a number of shops, cafes and a take away. We were given details of another lovely walk the following morning which was again really appreciated! I will NEVER forget the sound to the birds in the trees surrounding Kookaburra Lodge, it was amazing and we were also lucky enough to see the wonderful resident kookaburra a couple of times during our stay.
Halls Gap for us was one of the most memorable places on our six week trip and made more so by the lovely owners who really looked after us. Thank you

Stayed 2 nights during my first visit to the Grampians. The motel was in the heart of Halls Gap, a short stroll to the local shops. The room I chose was at the rear of the motel, it had 2 doors one at the front and one leading to your own little courtyard overlooking a farmers field and then the mountain range as the backdrop, beautiful. There was plenty of native wildlife, Kookaburra's, Kangaroos, Emu's, Ducks, Cockatoos literaly on your doorstep. Some describe the rooms as dated, but I actually liked them, the mix of timber and brick give the rooms an Alpine feel. The room was clean and well presented, mine had a 2 seater sofa lounge which was nice, instead of sitting on a bed. The host Peegy was very nice and helpfull with local tips. If you haven't been to the Grampians before, you should, it was very scenic, great lookouts and walks, with lots of native wildlife, heaps of kangaroos.

If you want to spend the day hiking and sight-seeing in the gorgeous Grampians and come home to a cozy rustic room, this is your place! Peggy and Stephen are so warm and welcoming, and the rooms are very comfortable. The view out the back sliding doors is superb, and at any moment you will see kangaroos hopping by and cockatoos bathing on your patio. Easy walking distance to town too. Kookaburra has it all! Thanks Peggy and Steve.

We stayed here for 1 night travelling back to Melbourne from the Great Ocean Road....via the "scenic route".......how spectacular The Grampians are!! We were made most welcome upon arrival.....roooms were modern clean and very comfortable. What we really loved was feeling so "close to Nature".....there were Kookaburras on the roof, Cockatoos on the fence and Kangaroos grazing in the fields. We even saw an Echidna crossing the road.....not many of those in Yorkshire!! It was just fabulous and we wished we were staying for longer!!

Room Tip: Rooms to "the rear" of the Motel have the "Kangaroo-vew"!!
