“A gem!”
Reviewed January 3, 2009

I went to D'Altons Resort with my husband for a long weekend getaway. We booked D'Altons because it seemed reasonably priced and it had a spa!

We were both so happy with the place - it was just gorgeous. It felt very cosy with a really comfy bed, cute kitchenette and a spa all in an open plan room, with a toilet and basin in the only other room.
It was so clean and we felt "at home" really quickly.

It was great to sit out on the balcony (you can bring out chairs and a table) and have wine, whilst you watch the cute kangaroos right in front of you! You are quite close to the other cottages but there is enough space that it isn't awkward.

Beautiful mountain air, pretty views and so much wildlife around. You can walk to some nearby restaurants and into town easily, but it's good to have a car to get to the great walks in the area (we recommend Mt Stapyleton - awesome walk.)

Owners are relaxed and lovely too. Definitely recommend it!!

  • Liked — The "vibe" of the cottage!!
  • Disliked — Probably an open fire in Winter would be cool...

What a fantastic place, I would recommend to anyone who just needs to unwind and get back to what life is about. The Grampians national park isn't necessarily on the itinerary for people traveling to Australia from overseas but its truely well worth a stop. We stayed for 2 nights and could have made it longer. Halls Gap is a wonderful small town full of the most friendly people you could wish to meet and nestled in a valley in the stunning national park. D'altons resort occupies land at the base of the hills and each little cottage is fully equipt with all you could need. We stayed in a deluxe cottage which looks out onto open space where the kangaroos come and roam late night and early morning; pull back your curtains as soon as it gets light and you will see them there. When you arrive at the resort the owners will ask you to mark your home town on a map of the world that they have in the reception, this is a wonderfully cosmopolitan place with visitors from all over. The national park is fantastic for walking (make sure you take lots of water and food) and has plenty of good places to eat at night after a hard days hike but make sure that you book in advance.

  • Liked — The location
  • Disliked — Would have been good to have a separate shower as well as the jucuzzi bath

We were travelling through the Grampion Mountains in southeastern Australia on our way driving from Melbourne to Adelaide and discovered the town of Hall`s Gap where they were having a jazz festival that weekend.
It looked like such a picturesque little town that we decided to stay overnight.
We cruised the town checking out all the accomodation and decided to turn around at D`Altons and made a quick decision to see if there were any rooms available there.
Fortunately they had a cabin that had been vacated that morning and so we checked in.

The cabins were cute and modern. The staff were friendly and helpful, the pool was clean but cool with wonderful mountain views all around. And our cabin was surrounded by semi-tame grey kangaroos at dusk.
What more could you ask?
The town of Hall`s Gap was a friendly little town with all the amenities too.

we have just come back from 4 weeks in australiaand booked a package trip on the great ocean road using budget accomodation. when we stayed in halls gap our lodge was at d'altons resort and after collecting our keys we drove a short distance to our lodge passing a group of wild kangaroos on the green swathe in front of several lodges. they took no notice of us and after unloading our bags we discovered a wood burning stove which we immediately lit. aafter making a cup of tea we sat in the window eating cake and drinking tea ,. warm and snug watching kangaroos do their thing on the grass.a warm fire in austalia may seem strange but in late sept. early oct. it is very welcoming and added to this there was a spa bath in the bedroom- a geat place to eat is the black panther
