“Terrible service..dated hotel”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

Halls Gap is a lovely part of the world with so much to see and explore. Our biggest let down was this hotel. The little town is filled with great sights, lovely places to eat and drink and everywhere we found very welcoming folks who made our experience great. Then we arrived at the Comfort Inn to have very average service by the lady on reception and when we enquirer about places to see she brushed us off quickly (her mobile phone was her priority)... Then on departure we had a disgraceful experience with a man on reception this time. When asked if we had used the mini bar I replied no, but they wouldn't remove the credit card authorisation until housekeeping checked. When I suggested we check together he was too busy...

On top of this the rooms are dated, the bed uncomfortable, they have glued the bedside lamps to the table and all the furniture is locked down ... Very weird!!!

Honestly there ate so many lovely little places to stay I would avoid this one !

Room Tip: Don't choose this hotel

We thank you for your comments. We are surprised to hear that our brand new beds were so uncomfortable and so we have passed your comment on to the manufacturer for them to look into. We do not quite understand the issue about motel furniture being fixed as it is generally the case in the majority of motels that were built around the same time. We do strive to provide a pleasant experience for our guests but it appears that in your case we have apparently failed.
Thank you again.

Good clean spacious accommodation.

Staff were friendly and welcoming and always ready to assist with any enquiries or questions about local attractions, facilities etc.

The kangaroos at night and morning were an unexpected plus and the wildlife we could see from the dining room was very entertaing.

would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.

The bedroom we were given was the largest we had ever seen in a hotel. The furnishings were "granny" style but everything was super clean. The bathrrom was enormous with a strangely small shower. However, water pressure was good and everything worked. I felt we got value for money - what was lacking in style was more than made up for in comfort.

We were surprised to be told that since it was a Sunday there were no meals available. We were incorrectly advised that only a single restaurant was open. We did not try breakfast as the motel had a very deserted feel to it. Check in and check out were quick and painless.

The grounds were neat and well maintained and the main building seemed OK.

We stayed here for 1 night recently and had 2 bookings for 3 rooms in total between the people in our group. The couple who booked separately didn't have any issue with their booking. We however found the bedding arrangement they had for us was completely different to what we had booked. We required a room for 4 and a room for 2. We were told at booking the beds would be a double and a single for the 2 person room and for the 4 we were expecting a king and a queen. On arrival they tried to give us a king only for the 2 people and a king and single only (sleeping 3 people) for 4 people. They then found a room with 2 singles and a queen for the 4 person room and the 2 people were stuck with a king (2 adult men were expected to share a bed). We were able to switch rooms between the 2 guys and the couple as the couples room was a double and a single. If we hadn't been able to do this then we would have been stuck with bedding arrangements that were not appropriate. They need to get their act in order with the bookings so you actually receive a room that matches what you booked.

In regards to the room ours (4 person room) was spacious, clean and while a little dated everything was in good order, although I think one of power points beside the bed wasn't working (I tried to charge my phone overnight which was still flat in the morning still). The beds were very comfortable and soft.

When I book accommodation I look to trip advisor for feedback just like you are now. This hotel had mixed reviews but I believe you need to be open minded when staying in accommodation.

The main three things I want in a hotel is comfy bed, cleaniness and good customer service. I got all three.

The decor of the rooms may be outdated but I quite liked that, the hot water was constant, there was a spa, the room was clean, the bed comfy and the customer service super friendly.

Ive stayed in hotels with fancy decor but the bed was horrible and the shower with water that wont settle to warm being either cold or hot and a stern face at the desk.

I had a lovely stay, the grounds are really nice with a river and open nature at the back. I woke up in the mornng and went outside to be greeted by a kangaroo on the property, that was special.

I would stay there again.

We thank you for your positive comments and that you enjoyed our beds - which we believe are important as that is where most of the time is spent in amotel room! We look forward to having the opportunity of welcoming you back the next time you are in Halls Gap.

Stayed here on Monday without a booking. Got a great last minute price. The deluxe room was so spacious and exceptionally clean. The staff were very friendly and obliging and the meal in the restaurant was lovely. Even better was the breakfast at the Morningside Cafe with a lovely view to go with it. Would highly recommend this accommodation.

What a fantastic find!! Not to far from Melbourne and a fantastic place to visit. The accomodation was excellent. We stayed in a luxury room upstairs and it was just fantastic. A large room with amazing views of the Mountains, the rear view of the wetlands with amazing bird like and kangaroos. Shortbread and coffee/tea awaits you included in the room. There was a king size ( gorgeous ) and a queen bed in the room, very clean with a large bathroom including a spa and an exhaust fan (now that is rare in Hotels). Plenty of towels not just the basic 2. Heating was quick and effective. Look, i could be picky the lower tiles in the shower were cracked and stained but next time I will take some bleach. Check in/out was quick lovely hosts. The grounds were imaculate, pergolas, pool, kiddies playground and amazing views. Walking distance 10 min. to shops about 5 of them. Geat eatery's and ice cream. The Motel has a restaurant, but we couldn't eat there, as there was a Wedding which I believe happens most Saturday evenings.

Room Tip: Take some snacks as there is only about 6 shops couldnt find the supermarket. Make sure you enjoy an...

We thank you for your feedback and recommendation and also for pointing out some of our short-comings and we are slowly getting around to our room refurbishments with the completion of our new prototype room of which, hopefully, there will be more to follow. Maybe next time you are in the Region you will hopefully have the opportunity to sample Darcy's Restaurant. Thank you!
