“A great backpacker find”
Reviewed November 12, 2010

We stayed in the apartment here for 3 nights. It was all good. Plenty of space, clean and well provided for self catering. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for the Grampians and handy for the town. Free use of laptop, and good range of books and tourist info. We used the free bikes - OK but need a bit of maintenance! We would definitely stay here again. Nice that it is adopting some green technologies. great walks all around. The Brambuk cultural centre is very worthwhile to visit.

This hostel had everything we needed. It is a cozy place with a nice common room and kitchen. We found it very nice that there was free internet and free bikes. We had a really relaxing time there and at the end we stayed there an extra day.

Tim's Place is an ultra clean new hostel; quiet; very well run; Tim is very helpful and runs the place really well. One of the best hostels I have ever been in, an I have been to many. The hostel is boarding a park with birds in abundance. Tim supplies bikes. And one great thing for me - free internet and wifi. A great place to kick back and have some relaxing time. Also great for all ages.

this place was recommended to me by a friend from the US, who stayed at Tim's Place the previous year.
i didn't know it was a backpackers until i arrived but it looked so cozy and comfortable that i booked myself in anyway. i stayed in a shared 4 bed dorm (two bunks) which even had its own kitchenette and dining table with chairs. the bed was comfortable, the room, amenities and linen clean and the atmosphere was friendly.
Pudding (Tim's dog) was on guard throughout the place and made sure security was maintained ;) (Pudding is a Cocker Spaniel btw, not a fearsome Rottie)
water is a precious commodity in this region and there were water buckets placed in the showers to collect the runoff water, to be used on the plants, which is a great way to conserve some of it.
Tim is a wonderful host who is always happy to advise on local places of interest, hiking and sightseeing.
there is a computer available with free internet access, also if you have your own laptop Tim will provide you with an access code for free.
charges are reasonable ($ for a shared bunk), considering that linen is provided, also there are some bikes available for use during your stay.

I stayed at Tim's Place for three nights during June 2008. This is a wonderful, home-like backpackers' hostel designed for those on a budget.

My partner and I stayed in Room 1, a private room with one double bed and one single bed. This room cost $65 per night, and only cash payments are accepted.

The two private rooms are within a "house"-like apartment, with a bathroom with toilet and shower, one seperate toilet, a laundry trough, an 8-seater dining table, a lounge area and fully equipped kitchen. The second bedroom, room two, has one bunk (two beds) and one double bed, and so would be suitable for a family of four. The bedrooms are quite small and are only a place to sleep.

The kitchen is fully equipped, with a stove-top, stove, full-size fridge (plus bar fridge), microwave, rangehood, toaster, kettle, a range of free teas/coffee (including plunger coffee), and a range of all utensils and crockery you might need. Many guests cooked full family meals here.

The two bedroom "apartment" has been designed to let lots of lights in, and room one and the kitchen look out onto grassland where kangaroos congregate. Outside the apartment, in a small undercover (though unheated) area, there are board games, a widescreen TV and DVDs.

There is a friendly dog on the premises, and rosellas appear to arrive frequently. Tim, the owner, is extremely helpful and friendly and will answer all of your questions on what to do - he also has discount vouchers for the restaurant "The Quarry" in town, maps, brochures, and other information.

I did not stay in the hostel section and so I can't really comment, but it looked nice. Most messages in the guest book comment on what a friendly place "Tim's Place" is and I couldn't agree more.

In addition, I would like to point out that all your linen and pillows are free, and you know they're fresh and clean because you are asked to take them off the bed and put them in the laundry basket upon checkout. You don't even have to put the sheets on the bed yourself as you do in some places - this is done for you. A towel for each person is also included. Not fancy linen - but nice and clean, like your own towels and sheets at home.

There is also unlimited free internet access in the "apartment".

I strongly recommend this accommodation to those who like meeting others and who are on a budget. Please note, this is not five-star accommodation - for example, your room will not be cleaned and your bed will not be made up. There's no free soaps and shampoos and there is not necessarily heaps of privacy. There is no monogrammed linen and the beds are small.

However, if you are happy with this - Tim's Place represents a great value option and I would strongly recommend it.
