Owner description: The NED KELLY MUSEUM is part of KATE'S COTTAGE GIFTS SOUVENIRS MUSEUM & replica of the KELLY HOMESTEAD. Step through back of shop to the NED KELLY MUSEUM and an authentic replica of the Kelly Homestead... like the words of the song ... truly the "ramshackle hut" . Excellent historic coverage of the Kelly era. Rated 'The Best Ned Kelly Museum" by Getaway and featured on their show at least three times. Somehow this one business has two separate listing for TripAdvisor reviews. Would you kindly take the time to review both KATE'S COTTAGE and the NED KELLY MUSEUM ? Thanks to all travellers who took the time to review us.

“Worth visiting”
Reviewed January 1, 2014 via mobile

I've always been a keen follower of Australian history so keen to go through the museum. A small cost to look at some great insights into the past. One of those iconic spots that if we don't support it won't be around forever for future generations to enjoy

Thank you so much for your review. We do talks on Ned history to school kids. My personal favourites are grade 5 & 6. They are like little sponges and love the history. I encourage them to read about this history themselves and make up their own minds. I do give them a bit of a nudge by telling them about the Royal Commission into the Victorian Police 1881 whereby 230 odd police were either demoted, pensioned off or sacked for their behavior during the Kelly Gang era. It is an amazing story so I think that it will go on for many years to come because Glenrowan is where he had is memorable if unsuccessful battle with the police. People come just to stand at that site.
I believe that us as Aussies with our fight for the underdog and our well known larrikinism , all this originates from the Kelly era.
Thanks again Chris Gerrett Kate's Cottage G S M & H

“A Must see for all Australians”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Ned Kelly was a significant figure in this country's short history and I am an admitted Kelly fan as such I think that it's important to pay homage to the man and a visit to the museum in Glenrowan is one of the best ways to do that. The museum itself is very interesting and tells the Kelly story well albeit from a pro-kelly standpoint but who can blame them. Glenrowan itself is a fascinating town to visit and see the sight of Ned's last stand, being able to stand in such a historical place is rare in Australia which makes this a must see for travellers and those interested in the countries history.

Thank you for your review and so true observations. People love to come to Glenrowan, stand at the site and muse over the events of the Kelly Gang siege against the Victorian police. We have had this business for over 28 years and have seen businesses come and go but interest in this story no matter what will continue. There are over 1000 books and plays written about Ned ..more than any other person in Australian history. We have wonderful rich history in Australia don't we....we just have to look.
Thanks sincerely again Chris from Kate'sCottageGSM & H

“Very Interesting and very nice staff”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

We decided to stop in Glenrowan when driving around Victoria. First we saw the large statue of Ned Kelly across the road from the Ned Kelly Museum, then decided to stop and have a look around. The lady in the museum was very pleasant and helpful. Shop area is stocked with many items and all seemed to be reasonably priced as was the entry to the Museum. We knew very little about Ned Kelly but after our short visit we knew far more of his history. I enjoyed the displays throughout the museum, from informative displays to the talking history while going thru the museum. The museum is much better than the bizarre "animatronic" Ned Kellys Last Stand which is a few doors up at the Glenrowan Tourist Centre. The museum is far more authentic. I can recommend this not the other.

Thank you for taking the time to review us and for your very kind words.
. We have tried to present the Ned Kelly story in the truest form that we know but at the same time always being respectful and mindful of his desendants who still live in this area.
It is an amazing story! Hope that you managed to pick up one of our free maps on the historic sites and township of Glenrowan.
Cheers and thanks again Chris & Rod Kate's Cotage GSM H

“Go for a look”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Being a huge Ned Kelly fan, I couldn't miss having a look. It was well set out, with loads of information. The outside area with the house was a little spooky like but was great to see. If you make the effort to see the Big Ned Kelly, then its most defiantly worth having a look.

Thanks for taking the time to review us. I hope that you picked up our free map of the town and it's historic sites while your were here.
The homestead can be a bit spooky especially when we are locking up late and out of the dark one of the cockatoos asked "what's your name" and says " Hello".
Glad you liked our Big Ned statue too. Hope you will call in again.
