“Great accommodation and an even better price!!”

I recently stayed at Viking Lodge for a training camp. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was considering it was one of the cheapest places in Falls Creek. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the lounge/dining/kitchen area was huge and had beautiful views of the mountains and the balcony off the lounge was great for BBQs at night. They have a workshop area for bikes on the ground level which was really handy and we could store our bikes in there rather than having to store them in our rooms. The lodge is just down the road from a great little cafe and a short walk to other restaurants. The management was really friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great stay!

The Viking Ski Lodge is a basic standard of accommodation located high in the Falls Creek village. With snow on the ground and with small children and bags the only practical access to Viking is via the over-snow transport. It cost over $120 for return tickets on the over-snow even with the youngest 2 toddlers for free.

The reception at Viking was very good, the staff carried our bags, arranged the cot, showed us around the lodge and recommended places to eat. The lounge and kitchen were comfortable and huge and its where you would spend most of your time as the rooms are very basic. The bathrooms are cheap and nasty with sliding doors that don't lock to keep the kids out. There is an extra communal bathroom in the hallway with a locking door.

The Feathertop ski lodge across the road is handy for breakfast and dinner. The in-house ski hire had very friendly and helpful staff but after a quick walk around the village we found other ski hires that had some items we needed at a 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost to rent. Apparently the in-house ski hire is controlled by the lift company. This is a good economical (by Falls Creek standards) place to stay for a group that probably wont spend much time in their rooms, but I would not recommend it for family's with small children.

We stayed here August of last year 2011, which meant we caught the last bit of snow before it all melted away. At the time I know Baw Baw had nothing left and Buller had school sports so they took all the snow they had and put it towards that. I love Falls Creek and it never disappoints. We picked this lodge as we had never stayed in one and wanted to find out what it was all about. We also paid a bit less as it was "shoulder" season. Still it was pretty pricey. The location is good and we were able to drive right up to the lodge as there was no snow on the roads. You can definitely ski in/out of the lodge when there is plenty of snow...we just had to walk down the road to the nearest snow to do this. The check in was quick enough but at the ski hire as there was no one at reception. The room was very basic and could probably do with an upgrade. Still not much to upgrade it contained a double bed and 4 bunk beds. We were there as 2 adults and 2 kids. The bathroom was like a bathroom in a cabin or caravan (fibreglass all up the walls etc) but clean. The kitchen area was also clean and looked after and had all the things you would need to cook your own meals (you need to with the prices of food on the mountain - and it ain't that great). You got your own fridge space and cupboard space to put your things in. The dining area was spacious and had a magnificent view. As it was not too cold, we even sat outside on one of the days on the veranda. We enjoyed our stay here but I would think that during peak season it would be very, very busy and maybe not as enjoyable from a waiting point of view but perhaps abuzz with excitement. Still, I would go again as it offers better value for money than the apartments...but I do love the apartments.
You can hire your ski gear down stairs and the supermarket is not too far away, or bring your own things from home (this is good if you can drive up to the lodge).

Room Tip: There are lots of stairs to climb. The dining and kitchen area are up top so if you want to be near...
