“What a surprise!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Four of us visited Creswick for golf, staying overnight. We did not want to eat at the hotel (Novotel) as it was very busy, so booked a meal at the American Hotel. It is a charming old pub from the Gold Rush era. But, the restaurant was fabulous. The booking was for a table for 4. but as we sat down they asked us if we would like to relocate to a table for 6 as a large group would be arriving soon, which was much apreciated. The service was prompt, courteous and accurate. The menu has us drooling, and everyone had something they really looked forward to and all enjoyed. The cob loaf was a great starter. I had the cajun calamari followed by the housemade banana ice cream with berry coulis - yum!

“Great Food”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Thanks to Tripadvisor, we dined this hotel when we were staying up the road at the Novotel. Three different main courses and desserts, and all were delightful. The garlic prawns were a hit, the duck was a little tough but very tasty, sauce was great and the beef souvlaki was fresh and a nice balance. My husband had a strawberry nut sundae reminiscent of his childhood, the apple and rhubarb crumble was yummy, and I had the apple and almond mille feuille, and will need to run a marathon to work it off. It was so delicious though, I ate it all.

“Just missed”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Friendly service but the food was disappointing - no better than very average pub food despite an extensive and interesting menu. Maybe we just ordered badly. Ok but would not go out of your way to visit

“Great reasonably priced meal”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Great service, good food and drinks in a historic old pub. Mate who is a traveller suggested this quaint kittle family pub. Great choice.
