“Excellent company - highly recommend”

We did both the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island tours. Our guides were great, especially Ian on the GOR. The vehicle is comfortable and pleasant to ride in. The smaller size really did make the trip different. It was nice to talk to the other people and spend the day in a more cozy environment rather than a bigger bus. We took a tour with 18 people in Sydney and even that smaller increase makes a difference.

The sites you see on these tours are simply unbelievable. We were most impressed with the wildlife reserve on the Phillip Island tour (which compensated for the fact that there were so few penguins to be seen that night - but that's indicative of the time of year, nothing to do with the tour company). The interaction with the kangaroos was amazing. We had gone to the Featherdale Wildlife Park in the Blue Mountains, which claims interactions with kangaroos, but there is no comparison. Seeing those babies in the kangaroo pouches created memories we will never forget. The meals included in the trip are excellent, far better quality then we expected from a tour. All in all, this is an excellent tour company and you should look no further while planning these wonderful trips.

FYI, I don't think it's worth the money to pay for upgraded tours at Phillips Island. At least for the night we were there, there was not much added value for the people that did upgrade.

“Poor business management, great tour guides”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

I had booked the Great Ocean Road tour and the Yarra Valley Wine Tour about a month or two in advance with A Tour With a Difference. It was not until the day and a half before the day our Yarra Valley Wine Tour was scheduled that I received an email from the company saying we would not be going on the Yarra Valley Wine Tour as their driver (their son!) got married the week before and the other fill in is out of town. Shouldn't they have known all of this much sooner than a day and a half ahead of time?! Basically, they said we were out of luck and we should go ahead and find another tour company to book. I work in the hospitality industry and this is a incredibly poor way to treat your customers. The least they could have done was apologize and have arranged for us to go on another tour which they knew would give a comparable experience.

Unfortunately, the very next day we were going on the GOR tour with them as well. I nearly wanted to cancel this one too out of principle, but I'm glad I didn't as the tour guide, Jason, was wonderful! Jason was full of fabulous facts and details about Australia and the GOR and chattered on for much of the day entertaining us all. The day is very, very packed full, but Jason did a wonderful job of not making us feel too too rushed and making the most out of our short time there. Both meals were large, delicious, and I would highly recommend doing the meal inclusions. Thanks for a fabulous time, Jason!

All in all, I was very put off by the poor customer service of the company, but the GOR tour ended up being a great time.

Took this tour with my husband on our honeymoon! Our tour guide Jason was pleasant and informative and kept us on track throughout the day. It's a long day, but we certainly saw a lot! Thanks!

My husband and I took this tour with the tour guide Ian. He was wonderfully knowledgable and made a great day for all. The sights are amazing and the day is organized so well! So glad we went with this tour group!

“Big day, but saw LOTS!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

We did the Great Ocean Road/12 Apostles day trip. We saw a huge amount, and had a great day. Completely recommend doing this trip as a tour, as you would miss out on a lot if you were self driving (especially billy tea and vegemite!).

Be warned, it's a REALLY LONG day, but its a small group tour with lots of rest and photo opportunities, and is managed really well. The guide was really knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic about the whole day. We did and would recommend the packages that included two meals. Our only criticism is that the food wasn't that great... But we weren't paying for, or expecting, fine dining, so it was ok.

And we have some AMAZING photos from the day!

Tip... If it looks like rain, take a coat. We had coats, but we still didn't dry out between about 2 and 9.30 when we got home! It's a long way from Melbourne, so be prepared to not be under cover.
