The Lodge offers reasonably priced, usable accommodation directly across from the main entrance to Westmead hospital. There were no kitchenette (deluxe) rooms available so we had a standard room and payed the extra $10 for a toaster and microwave. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The $80-85 shuttle they organised to and from the airport was excellent.
Westmead station is a short walk up the hill. (Turn left out of Wesley Lodge grounds.) Seniors can go anywhere on the system, all day, for under $3. We went to Katoomba one Saturday to avoid 'cabin fever'!
Nearby Parramatta Park was good for a breath of fresh air and some exercise.
Also up the hill are a few food outlets including Subway and Oporto. In the little shopping plaza near the station is a small grocers -not cheap but fine for bread, milk, fruit etc.(The big supermarkets are a train ride away in Parramatta's Westfield shopping centre.) Also in this plaza is the Newroz Cafe -a great find. Open during the day Monday to Saturday. Reasonably priced menu items -tasty meals with fresh salad. Take away options also available. The staff were lovely and offered a relaxing break from the medical round.
If you have to spend time around the Westmead or Children's hospital this accommodation can take some of the strain out of the situation.More
