“Excellent find”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

I was very impressed on our recent one night stay at this hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and well equipped- bar fridge, phone, ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities. The option of a fold out bed for my two young children to sleep in was excellent- they loved it! The individual room air conditioner was a little noisy but did a fantastic job! The location was excellent- just off the end of the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. It was also a simple and easy drive into the city the following morning down the M2. Plus the restaurant was a great find- quite a decent range of dinner options for the whole family. Plus only minutes walk to McDonalds if you don't want breakfast at the restaurant. Would definitely stay here again and again!

Reasonable check in time, the room was clean and well presented and serviced daily. Even though this motel is along side a busy road there was no road noise whatsoever as long as the window is kept shut. Very comfy bed. Will stay again when working in the area again.

I found this hotel was fantastic. I got my room at a great price through a 'flash' sale on one of the hotel websites.
The room was very clean, and well set out. The bed was extremely comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, in particular was the hotel manager who went out of his way to welcome all the guests.
Many great restaurants within walking distance (and I don't mean McDonalds!)

This hotel was expensive for an ibis, but wanted somewhere with a restaurant, so was willing to pay the extra $40-$50. On arrival was informed their restaurant does not open on a
Saturday night! I was appalled. The accommodation had already been paid, so had no choice but to stay. How on earth do Accor get away with closing their restaurants in their ibis hotels on
saturday nights? We had the same problem when we stayed in their hotel in Newcastle. Appalling service. Once again, it was not possible to hear the tv when the air con was going, so had to choose one or the other. Reach the point where you think you should be paid for the inconvenience and misery of staying in such a place.

In June 2013 I tayed at Ibis Thornleigh and gave a favourable review of the hotel. In the 6 months since my last stay though, things have slipped (or I didn't notice them last time).

This time I stayed on level 1 (floor level).

The rooms windows open straight out onto the carpark offering little to no privacy.

In addition the hallway to rooms on level 1 smelt strongly of napthalene (moth balls), which made it seem more like a visit to grandmas house than a hotel.

The aircon in my room looked straight out of the 1980s and came with a really strange smell, and the louvres were not adjustable. It was noisy, but was required to be used because the room was so stuffy.

It's a shame I write these comments as my previous stay was much better. I dont know if the rooms on level 1 are due for a renovation, but they desperately need them.

On a more positive note, checking in was a breeze and the staff member was polite and courteous despite my 9pm checkin time. I didn't catch his name though. Thumbs up for Matthew at front desk on the morning of my checkout for the cheery and friendly attitude, and wishing me a good day. :)

All in all, Ibis has taken a downward slide from my last stay. This might be attributed to different rooms though.

It was a room for a short stay. There is not much in the area at all so don't book this for anything in walking distance. The room was clean but. The bathroom was small and the shower sits slightly outside of the doors so I slipped a couple times using the toilet since they are right next to each other.
They do have workstations down stairs that allow you 30 minutes of free internet access. That is a great feature if you don't want to pay for wifi. I was able to check in at 9am after flying from the US.
The coffee machine as part of the breakfast was great and produced good drinks. Overall, I would stay here again for a quick stay before going somewhere else. Not really a long team place to stay.
