“Staff are nice, but room quality was average.”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

In June 2013 I tayed at Ibis Thornleigh and gave a favourable review of the hotel. In the 6 months since my last stay though, things have slipped (or I didn't notice them last time).

This time I stayed on level 1 (floor level).

The rooms windows open straight out onto the carpark offering little to no privacy.

In addition the hallway to rooms on level 1 smelt strongly of napthalene (moth balls), which made it seem more like a visit to grandmas house than a hotel.

The aircon in my room looked straight out of the 1980s and came with a really strange smell, and the louvres were not adjustable. It was noisy, but was required to be used because the room was so stuffy.

It's a shame I write these comments as my previous stay was much better. I dont know if the rooms on level 1 are due for a renovation, but they desperately need them.

On a more positive note, checking in was a breeze and the staff member was polite and courteous despite my 9pm checkin time. I didn't catch his name though. Thumbs up for Matthew at front desk on the morning of my checkout for the cheery and friendly attitude, and wishing me a good day. :)

All in all, Ibis has taken a downward slide from my last stay. This might be attributed to different rooms though.

It was a room for a short stay. There is not much in the area at all so don't book this for anything in walking distance. The room was clean but. The bathroom was small and the shower sits slightly outside of the doors so I slipped a couple times using the toilet since they are right next to each other.
They do have workstations down stairs that allow you 30 minutes of free internet access. That is a great feature if you don't want to pay for wifi. I was able to check in at 9am after flying from the US.
The coffee machine as part of the breakfast was great and produced good drinks. Overall, I would stay here again for a quick stay before going somewhere else. Not really a long team place to stay.

We booked last minute. Not sure why we stayed here. We arrived and the card machine wasn't working so we had to find cash. Then the device which created the room keys was broken so we had to be let in and didn't have cards. They wanted payment for WiFi which didn't work properly, and when it did it was INCREDIBLY slow. The shower was all made of plastic. No shampoo or shower gel etc. Mattress uncomfortable. It was cheap, but that's the only good thing I have to say. Also we got a $15 refund, which was ok. But if you can scrape a few dollars together to stay somewhere else, I suggest that you do that.

This property is in the perfect location for our requirements. Close to the train station for travel to the city and easy access to Castle Hill etc
Also very close to the freeway to the Central Coast. There is an excellent parking area. The rooms are clean and very well appointed. The beds are so comfortable. The public areas are compact , however the staff are always very helpful. The restaurant is good and breakfast has something for everybody. This hotel is a good find!

To my surprise, this hotel is well presented, friendly, clean and tidy. The only problem was a very high pitch noisy shower. Otherwise everything is fine. One of the best thing is that there are plenty of parking space and and the parking is free of charge.

I stayed here as the more affordable places nearby were full, and I did not feel like driving back and forth to the Central Coast.

While the rooms are reasonably comfortable, and are clean, they are a concrete box - an upmarket version of Formula 1 - which are now rebranded with the Isis name too. (Dispute with the car racing company???)

Despite being beside a road which is busy 24/7, noise does not intrude significantly.

What they lost stars for is requiring a card authorisation (despite no mini-bar), but banging a credit card fee on top of the already inflated price, meaning that it is best to actually pay by EFTPOS; and claiming the authorisation would go off that afternoon - yet it is still there a WEEK later. Why should I have to ring them with my bank's fax number to get rid of it???

Room Tip: Away from Pennant Hills Rd.
