“Small Room for Family”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2014

The panoramic suite, that offers "panoramic views over Rosehill Gardens" and sleeps a family of 5. We arrived to receive a room on the 1st floor that had panoramic views over James Ruse Drive. This was a bit disappointing, however we did not stay here for the views. The biggest issue we had was that with beds in this room to sleep 5, there was barely enough space to walk around.

The biggest saving grace was the Buffet Breakfast. This was awesome and a great experience for the kids. The service desk staff were also very good, where any query we had was answered quickly and politely.

Room Tip: If you get a panoramic suite as for a room on one of the higher floors to get the promised view.

Hi AndrewGibson777,

Thanks for your feedback on your recent stay. We were disappointed to hear that you were unhappy with the layout of the room, and we would have loved to have been able to move you to a room on a higher floor to facilitate more of a view of the racecourse. Our panorama Suites do sleep 5 at a maximum, as they are the largest rooms in the hotel, if people wish to have only the one room. They do interconnect with rooms as well, which would make for a bit more leg room on that next family holiday.

It's great to hear you enjoyed our RISE breakfast, as we think it's pretty great too. The pancake machine is one of our favourites! We're also glad to hear that our staff were able to assist you with all your queries.

Thanks again, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Kind regards,
The Rydges Parramatta Team.

As my first hotel stay on my first visit to Australia, I really wanted the Rydges Parramatta to be an amazing experience and it wasn't. That's not to say that it wasn't good, because it was. It was perhaps just a little quirky for my taste.

First, check in was smooth as could be, and Matt at the front desk was at once polite and professional. He had me in my room in minutes flat, and over the next days of my stay never missed an opportunity to greet me. Generally speaking, the room is decent; clean, pretty large if sort of bland. Everything worked well, save for the shower head, which wouldn't stay any higher than the lowest position so I had to duck to get under it. They are also a little stingy on towels - two bath towels, one hand towel and one washcloth.

Room service was both quick and tasty; the staff who delivered it were friendly and professional. When I left the tray outside the door upon finishing the meal, it was gone in short order.

The exercise facility was poor. Like many older hotels, this place spent tens of thousands of dollars on an indoor pool and hot tub. Like most of those other hotels, they've likely found the expense of upkeep far outweighs the amount of use they receive. And, since the 'fitness center' shares space with the pool here, it is sadly ignored. First, it's tiny - there's an old plate weight set, a treadmill, exercise bike, rowing machine, and my choice, an elliptical machine. While the others seemed to work okay, my machine was broken - it didn't detect motion, so it would shut down after about 2 minutes of pedaling. I made do, but it was less than good. Because of proximity to the pool, much of the floor in the exercise room was wet, too. Finally, there were no towels (you have to get a swimming towel at the front desk if you want one for working out). I have a difficult time believing you couldn't buy 100 hand towels for the fitness center very reasonably and not have them all disappear at once. Maybe some anti-bacterial wipes, too? And a water purifier?

Lastly, the hotel is right across the street from the horse track, which was both cool and interesting. Returning to the hotel after a car tour in Sydney (check out Able2Tour.com if you ever need a car & driver anywhere in Sydney!), the place was rocking. There was an 80's rock band playing just outside my window (they were excellent!), and lots of inebriation around the property. I enjoyed the music from my room and, because they ended at a reasonable time, slept like a baby.

I would stay here again, and would happily bump them to four stars if they'd make a couple of minor modifications.

Room Tip: If you don't like post race day revelry, you may wish to face away from the parking lot.

Hi Cheesehead7,

Thanks for your great, all encompassing feedback on your recent stay. We're honoured that you chose Rydges Parramatta as your first hotel visit on your fisrt trip to Australia, and hope you enjoyed the city of Sydney. It's always great to hear that our staff are making our guests feel welcome, whether it's Matt on the desk or the room service attendents, that extra bit of customer service goes a long way!

It's disappointing to hear that you didn't enjoy our gym faciliteis - since you have left we have upgraded all of the equipment and have new machines.

It's also great to hear you enjoyed our race day. Being directly opposite the racecourse the hotel develops a bit of an amtosphere after the races, and it's a great day/night out for everyone.

Thanks again for your feedback, and we hope this won't be your last trip to Oz!

Kind regards,
The Rydges Parramatta Team.

Accommodation was good, clean and staff friendly.

Wasn't too impressed by security giving us the 3rd degree on arrival to check if we were on 'the list' prior to entering the car park. Secure parking under hotel included in price which was very limited but no issues for us parking.

Room service menu very expensive.

Downside to accommodation was other guest when letting their room doors slam shut really noisy in our room - being picky.
Would stay here again.

Hi Mt8375,

Thank you for the feedback you have provided about your recent stay.

It’s great to hear that Rydges Parramatta provided you with accommodation and service that suited your needs. I do apologise if you felt that security were giving you the third degree. Security are hired on a race day to ensure a safe environment for our guests and make sure only hotel guests are able to use the parking facilities. With thousands of people at the races, to not have security at the entrance of the car park would mean that our hotel guests would have to park on the side street. I have passed your feedback in regards to our pricing on to our Food & Beverage Manager.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel!

Kind regards,
The Rydges Parramatta Team.

Positives- got 3rd night for $70 with free breakfast. Great little pub downstairs with good affordable meals and friendly locals. Room was a basic motel room, pricey by QLD standards, but it was clean and comfortable and serviced daily.
Negatives- breakfast was ok but we wouldn't pay the standard $29. Our toilet constantly ran unless you hit the button a number of times, the air con was on a timer which meant we were waking up hot and stuffy to have to restart it. The sauna (which we were looking forward to) is a single person box in ea gender toilet so that was out. I've never had to pay for undercover secure parking before either.
Overall, I wouldn't rule it out but I would shop around.

Hi Daviscma,

Thanks for your feedback on your recent stay. It's great to hear you enjoyed our Winning Post Bar, in particular our food and the friendly locals. It's disappointing to hear you didn't enjoy our RISE breakfast like so many of our other guests, and we would have loved to have assisted you with the problems with your ac and the running toilet - our friendly staff are here 24 hours a day to assist.

We hope to see you again soon.

Kind regards,

I do a bit of travel on business so am used to the hotel circuit. This hotel is standard fare. Rooms clean, decent size, bed comfy, heavy drapes, extra tv channels, and service polite. Breakfast had plenty of variety and the function rooms were well set out. Reason for three stars though is that comparably I think the price is on the high side (mid 200s for weekday stay).

My wife & I stayed at Rydges for the first time in March 2014 & had a great stay !
The premises was clean & well presented. The room was a little tired but cleaner than most motels by a long way.
The most impressive feature of the hotel is the kind , friendly , well trained , enthusiastic staff !
Everything for those heading to Rosehill racecourse has been taken care of. Security on the Saturday afternoon was to be commended.
The rooms at the back of the motel are the quietest (we were advised by staff)
The breakfast was a little expensive but a fair range for most diets. The omelette was one of the best i have had.
We will be back !

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the motel.

We stayed at rydges after a day at the races thinking it would be convenient. Never again. The air con was loud and noisy. The rooms old and dated. Downstairs the music was so loud it was incredible. This motel has no standards or no class. They just cater to the after race drunks. This is clearly shown by the number of police and security guards they employ. We were charged ridiculous rates because of the convenience of race day but we actually left at 630pm. We couldn't bear staying the night. They are the biggest rip off and we will never stay there again. We stay at many other rydges and this one is a disgrace to the brand.

Hi Bren57,

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay. It is disappointing to hear that you did not enjoy yourself as many of our other guests did on that particular night. Rydges Parramatta has a long and proud history of catering for our guests that do go to the races by offering a fun and safe environment for them to enjoy themselves, and the entertainment and the dining options we provide is why people choose to stay at Rydges Parramatta on a race day. The security and police that we employ are a harm minimisation initiative put forward by the hotel, along with our Responsible Service of Alcohol practices to make sure that all of our guests, whether they be in house, or people looking for somewhere to grab a meal after a day at the races, can enjoy themselves safely and responsibly. By having our security here, we can make sure that “after race drunks” are moved on from the premises, to allow our other guests to enjoy not only our bars, but the two dining options we have available. A large proportion of our guests enjoy a delicious meal with a glass or bottle of wine, and some wind down with a dance at the end of the night.

It’s disappointing to hear that you left at 6.30pm without coming to reception, as we would have loved the opportunity to discuss your concerns at the time, as well as your concerns with the air conditioning. Our staff are available to assist 24 hours a day, and can definitely provide solutions for any problems that may arise. In regards to the music, the one man band in the Winning Post Bar does conclude at 9pm, with all in house guest being moved inside and all external guests being moved on. Once again, we could definitely have assisted in this respect given the opportunity.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards,
The Rydges Parramatta Team.
