Description: Situated on the shores of Sydney Harbour on Rose Bay, Catalina is a beautiful, airy light-filled restaurant and bar with floor to ceiling glass sliding doors opening out onto a long curved balcony over the water. In keeping with its harbourside location, the menu features beautifully fresh seafood - Sydney Rock oysters shucked to order; house smoked Tasmanian salmon; whole snapper and barramundi, filleted on the premises - but also a wide range of the best meat and poultry Australia has to offer. A fabulous Australian and global wine list (over 600 wines) and welcoming, attentive service, make this restaurant a must-do Sydney dining experience. Come in all day for the full menu - Catalina doesn't close between lunch and dinner - or graze on bar food overlooking the most beautiful harbour in the world.

“Service and view amazing”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

We had a great meal here. The duck dish is the best duck we have ever had. In addition to this, Bec ordered a dish with a fried egg, and being pregnant thought it would be cooked through. When this was not the case, the waiter noticed her hesitation and immediately removed the dish and allowed her to order another. Amazing.

Great wines also. Slightly noisy if you are after a really quiet meal.

“Nice view shame about the rest”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

We were a party of six for lunch and tried to have the winter special menu. Pumpkin chips on the risotto turned out to be tiny cooked cubes. Short of standing up and yelling we failed to get the staff attention three times and were actually fobbed off once. One waitress attempted to remove a dessert plate (the gelato was a puddle by then) while the patron waited. . and waited . . for the ordered coffee. At the conclusion the person paying was instructed where to write in the tip on the credit slip. It was NOT deserved.

I was shocked to read about your experience with the service at Catalina. As owners, we really insist on prompt, friendly, efficient service. It is something we strive for.
You can see from the many complimentary comments about our staff and service from other contributors on these pages, that it is quite out of character for my staff not to be right on top of things, looking after their customers with utmost care and efficiency.
I can only apologise to you.
Thank you for your feedback, as we can use this to identify and rectify the issues you raised.
As a side bar: I believe the recent pin only credit card requirements (beginning August 1) may have influenced the way the bill was processed at the table, and I do apologise if any offence was caused by this. I may be wrong, but I don't think the waiter was actually asking for a tip, but rather grappling with the new technology, where the eftpos terminal actually prompts the question about tipping.

“Amazing views, attentive service and tastey food.”
Reviewed August 2, 2014 via mobile

We went for lunch on a Saturday for a special occasion and it is expensive but worth it. My partner chose really well. The scallop starter with chorizo in the sauce was delicious and his duck main, confit and smoked, with a rhubarb tart was awesome. My choices were tastey but not as good. I'm not a vegetarian but like veggie options and the beetroot tart starter was average and bit dry with the puff pastry base. My main was lobster fettuccine tastey but we both preferred the duck. Very attentive service throughout and friendly staff and the petit fours dessert was half the price of the others and enough for the two of us to share after all the other food. For a fancy place they have good sized portions. The sides are really big too so perhaps didn't need two. If anything I'd like to have seen more tastey sounding veggie options but overall we had a lovely relaxed afternoon there.

“Special Experience”
Reviewed August 2, 2014 via mobile

Food always good, original thinking and good quality. NZ Salmon excellent, prawns outstanding. Halibut very good, snapper tasty. Deserts delicious. Wine list best of Aus, wine by the glass reasonable. Always busy and fun. Worth the drive out. Awesome view and atmosphere.

“Great food, awesome view”
Reviewed August 2, 2014 via mobile

I took a client to Catalinas for lunch on a Friday. The food as previously experienced was outstanding, the view uninterrupted and service up to standard for a fine dining restaurant.

We were seated next to the window- it was extremely windy. Being your sunglasses as it does get incredibly glary in the afternoon if they cannot roll out the external shade awning.

One of my favourite restaurants which has everything going for it, no matter what the occasion.
