While in Sydney to watch The Ashes, we unfortunately found ourselves with a couple of spare days due to our not so good cricketing performance.

We were soon to be heading home and wanted a final treat before returning to the UK mid January.

This was fairly expensive but, though we had done helicopter trips, neither of us had been on a seaplane.

We got a cab to the departure point which was some way out of the City. We flew off over the coastline to a restaurant called Cottage Point Inn in a local national park. The restaurant is perched on the waters edge in a perfect scenic setting.

We were greeted very warmly by staff who are clearly used to diners stopping off for lunch in this manner - though a fabulous first for us and one I'd like to get used to! A 3 course lunch was included in our package and the food was top notch. Having had our lunch, we had a lazy hour with a few drinks before the seaplane returned to pick us up.

On the return journey the pilot flew in close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House for us to take photos.

This was a truly memorable trip and one of the highlights of our tour of Oz. highly recommended.

We went on an amazing trip up to Whale Bay for breakfast ( the breakfast wasn't great!!) BUT the flight and view was all AMAZING and we loved every minute of it!! The staff were very friendly and efficient...we felt v safe and connected with the landscape!! We thought the price was well worth it esp compared to experiences such as the Grand Canyon...this was better!!

This seaplane company flies you and your partner north on a beautiful flight with a view of the coast.

They do a smashing job of packing your picnic. Definitely spring for the seafood option. Totally worth it.

You arrive at a secluded beach that you can only reach by boat or plane. You might be the only one there or there might be one or two boats of people on the beach. All you see is green, and you just get this feeling that you are away from it all — which is awesome. Swim. Relax, picnic under an umbrella.

Everything is taken care of for you. And as a momento, you get a backpack, a picnic blanket and some other picnic equipment.

Highly recommended.

Having gone to Sydney to watch the cricket, I was left with 2 unexpected free days due to another inept performance from England, and whilst wondering what to do, I saw a seaplane fly over the harbour. Having never been in a seaplane, I wondered what it would be like, so I got my hostel to ring up and try to book me a flight. Jenny in the office was friendly and helpful, and was able to book me in for a flight that afternoon. She immediately emailed me my confirmation and directions of where to go in Rose Bay. A little boat then takes you from the jetty to the plane, where you meet Steve the pilot, who gives you a lifejacket and helps you climb aboard. After that it is simply awesome, the take off, the flight out from Rose Bay to the harbour entrance and then up the coastline to the Hawkesbury River, where we had to land to pick up another couple, then another take off, followed by a flight back over the Northern Beaches from Palm Beach back down to Sydney Harbour where we headed for the Harbour Bridge and Opera House and did a figure of 8 over them so that everyone could get a good view of them and get lots of photos, before heading back down the harbour and landing back in Rose Bay. You just keep finding yourself going 'wow' at the stunning views that unfold just below you. Steve was a friendly laid back chap who kept us well informed with his commentary as we flew and was happy to answer our questions too. We probably got lucky that due to having to pick up the other couple, our 30 min flight was actually over an hour and had 2 take offs and landings, but even so this was an amazing experience that I'll never forget, and would recommend to anyone.
