Owner description: Experience the Magic at Luna Park Sydney! Built in the 1930s, Luna Park is a harbour-side amusement park that still contains traditional midway games and rides. The Park is open year-round; generally every day during NSW School Holidays, and Friday to Monday during the school term. It is advised to check their website for current opening hours. Entry to the park is completely free, and the best way to experience the rides is to purchase an unlimited rides pass. Buy your tickets online and you are guaranteed to save money.

We saw the entrance from across the harbour and were compelled to take the ferry ride over to visit. The park has the feel of a 1940's carnival, but as of Oct 2013, the attractions were clean, well maintained and brilliantly painted. Don't forget your camera. We appreciated that you could walk through the park without paying an admission fee, and pay for rides individually (though we chose not to ride during our visit). The deco-style art and sculpture, and specifically the Crazy Crooners, gave us the eery feeling that Chucky (you know, the American horror film about a murderous puppet) might sneak out of one of the carnival concessions and wreak havoc! Would recommend to any amusement park fun if only to see a sample of amusement park history come-to-life.

The most important thing to remember is to take plenty of CASH. If you want an ice cream, snow cone or lunch, you need to use cash. Apparently the 21st century hasn't arrived here yet.

And it's expensive, so remember to bring your key card, because whatever you have on you, you'll need more for a fun day.

We spent 4.5 hours here and had six rides, an hour in Coney Island and another hour on lunch and snacks. The food choices are appalling. Either a hot dog, chips and a drink, a chicken wrap with the same (deep fried of course), a hamburger with the same, etc. You get the picture. Plus, all of them are $12.95. A Happy Meal with a similar amount of crap is $5 - and you get a toy. No fruit in sight. And you can pay in cash, or cash. A practice usually reserved for businesses with shady tax compliance.

The side shows are fun for the kids, but as usual, pretty much rigged to ensure failure. Surprisingly one of our party did win a major prize on the dart throw. The can toss, basketball and clowns we failed at spectacularly at of course.

I chose to go to Luna Park with my DH and two adult children and their partners for a bit of fun to celebrate my 60th birthday and had a ball. We rode the Dodgem'cars, the Wild Mouse, the ferris wheel and entered the old building with activities that truly felt like we'd gone back in town such as going down the big slide on a burlap sack and walking across rolling boards. And the highlight was the temporary "Haunted House" attraction that had all of screaming due to the realness brought about by live actors - truly amazing! Best of all, one of the attendants on the Wild Mouse was quick to learn it was my birthday and made a birthday badge that was given to me at the end of the ride and for the rest of the day, every staff member said 'Happy Birthday Karen'! I felt like a kid again and had a ball!

We went to Luna Park for the first time earlier this year. We booked our "unlimited ride" tickets on line and they were a little bit cheaper than roll up prices.

Our son, who is 12 had a ball. I have to say that I also enjoyed the opportunity to ride the Mad Mouse (since it has been dismantled in Adelaide for some time) and some of the other rides.

It was a public holiday and we turned up early to beat the crowds. We had the run of the place for the first few hours with light numbers of people. It got busier as the day wore on but we went from one ride to another without waiting too long.

Yes, it is a bit old but that is part of the niche that Luna Park has. We had a great day but it is not something we would do multiple times per year.

We also took the opportunity to walk back across the bridge (another first), so you can make of the day what you want.
