“Easy access to Airport; Fantastic Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2009

This was a last night stay from an extended stay in NSW and QLD. I chose due to past experience with Intercontinental Hotels and the ease of access to SYD. I was very impressed with the hotel staff and ease of check in. I had arrived earlier than expected (9am), but they allowed the early check-in and a platinum upgrade. this allowed for a quick refresher before an all day Sydney excursion. The room was clean, comfortable, and a great layout and view. It is just what the weary traveler is looking for. Rest was easy due to the quiet, and the lavatory ammenties were amenable. The hotel is a short walk to the rail line. the only drawback is the extra access fee charged at this location by the rail operators. The airport taxi ride is a short one and relatively inexpensive ~$10AUD. The next time I am fly through Sydney, i will definitely look at staying at this location again.

Stayed one night due to early flight. Got a great summer deal of $99.00 on their website. Friendly staff at check in/out. Had a corner room on 8th floor which appeared to be recently rennovated. Room was comfortable, a good size, desk and chair with all amenties with a bonus of watching planes take off at night. No noise at all. Used room service which was reasonably priced and a good selection of meals. Good choice of TV channels. Caught shuttle from domestic terminal (shuttles for hotel pickups outside terminal, ask terminal volunteers who will direct you if needed) and return to international. $6.00 each way. Leaves around every half hour (needs to be booked at reception). As stated, surrounded by offices but if you are only there for a night of no consequence. Would use again.

I stayed at this property on two separate one night stays to catch early morning flights out of SYD. I made my reservations on the Priority Club web site.
I opted to take a cab to and from the hotel to SYD. It was about $10 to the Domestic Terminal and about $15 to the International Terminal. There were a number of cabs in front of the hotel each of the two mornings I had flights to catch.
The property is dated and the hallways aren't fresh. You should avoid getting a room on the second floor because of the noise on this floor from the lobby atrium.
The rooms I stayed in were dated but they were clean and quiet with a comfortable bed and good functioning bathrooms.
I do not regret deciding to stay at this property because it was convenient and reasonably priced but not remarkable in any way.

We stayed just one night as we were in transit from singapore through to Cairns. The hotel is in a rather bland area a few miles from the airport ($15 taxi ride). Nearby there was a decent cafe, which seemed a better option for breakfast. Our room was clean but rather tired, however it was adequate for the one night. The rooms service was efficient and seemed good value and a better option that the noisy bar.

On returning to the airport for our onward flight, we opted to take the airport transfer bus. We assumed this was free courtesy service and no one at the hotel advised us of any charge. However when we arrived at the terminal, we were asked for $6 each. I am not sure if this was correct, but we and other travellers reluctantly paid part of the cost, but all complained, so please take care.

Dates of Stay: 12-13 September 2009 Room #901
Large room next to elevator-no issues with noise. TV with about 12 channels. King sized bed and double sofa bed. Desk with chair-complimentary internet due to my Gold Priority Club status-no laptop so they gave me free access to computers in lobby.
Bathroom with tub/shower combo, sink, and toilet. All amenities provided as usual at Holiday Inns in Australia. No available outlets by bed but hotel provided an extension cord (for 20$ AUS deposit) that would reach from desk area. Some available outlets in bathroom but none other found in room.
Big negative-Restaurants
Main restaurant closed on weekends except for breakfast (didn't eat breakfast so no comments on quality/availability). Hotel has bar with sandwiches which are priced between 15$ and 20$ AUS. Closed restaurants entrees were over $25 AUS according to menu in lobby. Bar food not the greatest-nasty tasting hamburgers-McDonalds would have been better but too far to walk. Had no idea how much I was paying for drinks but found out at check out that my charge for 2 burgers with chips, 2 beers for me, and 1 wine for friend was 48$ AUS in total. Would recommend trying to find something better if willing to walk. Hotel down the street had restaurant but did not check out their menu or prices. It couldn't have been worse!
Airport shuttle available for 6$. Runs about every 35 minutes-book in advance and pay at front desk.
Easy access from Mascot train station. Go out of station and take left on Bourke Road. It's a very short walk-hotel is on left just past the bus stop. It costs less than 6$ from downtown to Mascot but almost 15$ to airport from downtown-only a few km further but almost 9$ more!
I would stay here again if I have an early flight. No big issues except with the food selection. People were friendly and seemed to care about their guests except for the guy who checked me in-he seemed to not acknowledge my Priority Club status but did finally mention that I had been upgraded when I asked about a room with two beds-all they seem to have are rooms with twin beds. View of room over airport was nice and far enough away not to be noisy. If you need to stay near the airport, then this is probably the best choice.

Hotel left a pamphlet in the room advising us that there wont be any running water between midnight til 4am because they are upgrading/fixing hotel plumbing. By the time we check out at 10am, there was NO running water at all. Worse of all, the toilet wont flush...Of course, when i realized it, it was TOO late. We were advised to use the gymn toilets/shower, by then hundreds of hotel guest have been given thesame advise. We had to go to a party w/o a shower...

I was booked here by my company for a 2 night stay as the course I was attending associated with the airport. I know Sydney well and know Sydney airport well. I will break down my experience...

CHECK IN.. The staff were welcoming and polite and checked me in immediately. Check in was fast and friendly.

LOBBY..This seems to be an open area with access to the bar and restaurant. It is uncluttered and simple to check in and out. There were enough staff to handle the volume of check ins and outs. It's an atrium style with enough seating to cater for the transient customer, plus a very comprehensive brouchure desk and monitors with flight status.

ROOM..Initially I was allocated a room on the 1st floor. I was in there for all of 30 seconds and had to change. That floor is above the lobby and I could hear every conversation. My next room was much better, on the 2nd floor and a corner room at the very end of the hallway. Room appeared to have been updated, different look to the first room. It was spacious and consisted of double bed (not queen) desk, chairs, full internet access at a price, limited minibar but quite acceptable. I was more than happy with this new room.

BATHROOM..I was quite impressed. It is spacious and very clean. Towels were good, there were amenities provided, although basic I feel they provide more than some 5 star hotels. Of course with Holiday Inn if you forget an item they are happy to supply you with it unlike 5 Star hotels like Stamford which charge $6 for a toothbrush.

LOCATION..It's an airport hotel which I found frustrating, coming from Sydney, knowing that there is so much more for a $30 one way trip in a cab to the city. There is not even a convenience store nearby. The closest activity/shops are in Mascot, about a 15 minute walk. It's not a bad stroll and you can get Italian, Thai or Chinese but it is a walk. There is nothing around this hotel besides offices. Trains to the city depart every few minutes and the station is a 2 minute walk, direct link to the city.

PRICE OVER ALL...I have stayed at Stamford Airport and disliked my experience there. Although not as luxurious the Holiday Inn it's a much better alternative. I will stay here again.
