“Ok for airport hotel”
Reviewed November 29, 2011

Don't have high expectations but the place is very clean which is good for an airport hotel.
Service is fair, don't expect breakfast, unless you want an overpriced buffet. Otherwise this hotel is fine for one night.

I stayed at this Hotel so i could be at the airport by 9am. It was a lovely room much bigger than the nearby Ibis, it would be suitable for a longer stay. Bed comfortable, bathroom was large for a motel near an airport and parking $15 which is reasonable and it was safe and secure. Hotel accessed by a lift from the carpark so good if wet. The Hotel is easy to find and very easy to get in and out of, by car, again much better than the Ibis. I was travelling alone and had no problem getting to and from it. My only complaint would be the $4.50 tray charge on room service. Breakfast advertised as $16.00 but was actually $20.50. Breakfast was good for $16.00, but for $20.50 a bit overpriced. I arrived early at 12 noon and was given my room. The girl on reception was very helpful.

We've stayed here a couple of times now - most recently in Oct 2011. The reception staff are friendlly and efficient. There is car parking underneath the hotel for $15 a night - about par for Sydney airport hotels. The rooms are 4 star standard - bed comfortable - not too firm and have both bath and shower. We've had room service and also eaten at the bar - both were quite good food and service. Breakfast buffet has a reasonable choice of food as well as omelette's to order. The rooms we had - had a view over to the airport - but were soundproofed so you weren't disturbed by the noise. Overall a good airport transit option.

This hotel is one of several in Sydney that try to gouge guests with outrageous internet charges. The trick here is that your $25 dollars for a day's worth of internet in the room has a limit on its use. After a couple of hours of normal business use, you get a message that you have used too much and your speed will be slowed down unless you pay extra. Then, whether you pay extra or not, you are cut off completely if you are so bold as to transfer 1000 mb of data during your day's worth of internet usage. If you want to continue, you have to sign up for another $25 dollar's worth. It is quite possible to run up a daily internet bill of $75 + just by handling normal business files.

I find this outrageous especially for a hotel that charges $300 for a room. The cheapest internet coffee shop in Sydney (or anywhere in the world, for that matter) doesn't impose limits on how much you download. This is just arrogant, unconscionable price gouging, plain and simple. I would not have stayed in this hotel had I known about this practice -- it made me feel more like a victim than a guest. I hope company comptrollers take note and instruct employees to avoid hotels that use this system. I will certainly have a word with mine.

The hotel is quite inconvenient for airport use anyway, with its 2pm check in time and 11 am check out time. International travellers who commonly arrive in Sydney early in the morning may not care to cool their heels in the lobby until 2pm when their room is ready; and those with late afternoon departures may feel the same about being booted out of their rooms at 11. The shuttle from the international terminal to the hotel is very hard to find and rolls by once every half hour if you are lucky. It picks up passengers at an unmarked, unsheltered stand in the middle of the airport access road -- no fun if it is pouring rain. A better idea than being stuck here in airport nowheresville is to take a taxi or train into town, leave your luggage at one of the many pleasant hotels you can get for $100 a night less that this one, and explore some of Sydney's many attractions until your hotel lets you check in at a more reasonable hour like noon.

This place is not worth the money, the location, or the irritants. You can do much better elsewhere.

Dear IanWriter

Thank you for your time in sharing your recent experience at our hotel. I note on your profile that you have stayed in many hotels across the world.

As with your previous experience in a Sydney Hotel, as well as all the other Airport Hotels in the Sydney area, we do charge a fee for using the internet. We have a great upgrade option to a king superior room which includes 200mb of internet that represents great value for money.

As to your comments about the hotel services, we strive to deliver a great genuine Holiday Inn experience as represented by many other reviewers on this website.

I would love the opportunity to discuss this further with you

I had to spend a night at a hotel near the Sydney airport, and chose the Holiday Inn, I guess for points. This place was great for that purpose. Front desk staff were friendly, room was fine, I didn't eat there but the restaurant/bar arrangements looked good.

My only glitch was getting charged for internet access, which I shouldn't have, being PC Gold. I mentioned this on checking out, it appeared I had made a mistake somewhere when logging in, and the morning front desk staff were very apologetic, but said they couldn't fix it since it was a 3rd party provider. This was over Easter weekend, so they couldn't reach anyone to fix it, but gave me names and numbers and emails of people to contact to fix it. Well of course I didn't fix it, promptly losing the information they'd given me, but I did appreciate their attention to the issue when I raised it.

Short version, I'd stay there again given a similar circumstance. Sorry I can't say more, I jsut got there, slept, got up, and left.

ps--do not take a taxi to the hotel from the airport, unless you want an angry driver. He was pretty disgusted to hear where I wanted to go, so close to the airport, but I wasn't aware there was a shuttle, plus was tired. I gave him a very generous tip, he seemed a little better after that.

One on our wayout of the country. Two on the way back. Booked on line. When we got there our room we were booked into was being painted. Back down the stairs to the Office. A change of room and floors. Not much help with a disbled person. Rooms clean but small. Office staff very abrupt and not very helpfull. Washing machines grubby but efficent.
Returned from overseas 10 days later. Didn't remember us at all. Another staff member. Boy are these big city people rude..A place to stay close to the airport.

Dear Aligattor,

Thank you for using Tripadvisor to post a review from your holidays in January 2011. We would love the opportunity to get in contact with you to discuss your stay. The hotel in fact does not have a guest accessible Washing Machine laundry (we have laundry service available) and thus we are concerned that the review is referencing another hotel you stayed at.

All the best,

Close to airport with a shuttle. Food and beverages rather expensive. Showing it's age with need of a make over. Staff ok and may have to wait to check in at the end of the queue. Buffet breakfast satisfactory but with no real option to eat anywhere else then you will have to make do!
