Did the Sweet Winter Retreat for 2 nights day, breakfasts and dinner for one night. The room had glimpses of the harbor, although for the price we had asked for harbour views. The room had a double bed and single one for my daughter. The room outlook was the same as the pictures on the website. Only complaint was that there was no storage space but then the rooms were not designed for modern times. Considering that it was converted from the 1880s I though the rooms were quite well done.
No cars were allowed which made it very safe for children and helped minimize impact on the environment. If you were unfortunate to stay at the furthest point from the reception and it was raining it would be difficult to get to your car. I was told that they did not take you to the car park unless it was your first time arrival and during the late evenings. There were fantastic views from several vantage points during my walk.
We were quite near the lounge rooms so we helped ourselves to mugs of tea & coffee, although there were tea & coffee in the room itself. I have to say some guests are very messy leaving half drunk mugs and spilling drinks all over the lounge. There was also a computer with internet facilities which made it a magnet for children.
It was really pleasant to sit outside your room on the verandah and read the complimentary papers until the dreaded blower decided to remove a few dozens leaves by making a huge noise.
We did a Wharf & Wander tour which gave us an insight into the history of place. We tried the see the fairy penguins at dusk but none came! We did not go for the ghost tours but we were told that there were paranormal activity in many areas. We looked into one of the toilets and it was really creepy - I am glad we had ensuites.
Breakfast was nothing outstanding. I disliked scrambled eggs especially when it has been sitting in the bainmarie for a while. There were the standard juices, small selection of fruits, pastries, cereals, cheeses and breads. It was really thoughtful to provide papers in the breakfast room and I think that little details like this makes an enjoyable stay.
We had a pleasant 3 course meal at the Boiler Room. The service was impeccable but I expected more from the food. The waiters & waitresses were not intrusive but the same time, ensured we were left not wanting. Thank you for a lovely meal.
I would be happy to stay here again if I can get a good package. We paid more than A$700 for the package as we wanted an ensuite and water views.
