Had dinner at the Boiler House restaurant. Excellent meal. Very helpful staff keen to share the fascinating history of this very unusual place. Glad we visited in 2013 voluntarily not 1913 in quarantine! Well worth the visit.

We went on a very busy Sunday, but were able to drive in and around the roads. I also walked all the way down to the dock--that's some hill. I'd only seen it from the water, so it was fascinating to learn more about it.

The old quarantine station or the "Q" as it is called is an unusual place to stay. This is the old station where the sick were housed to either get well or die as they tried to make a new life in Australia. It has been converted to a hotel. The rooms were nice. They did not have air conditioning but we did not need it. Our room had a nice bathroom. Everything was clean and safe. We ate dinner and breakfast on the grounds and both were great meals. We went out at night looking for local wildlife and saw a bunch. The place is covered with bandicoots! Very cute. Also, there is a small group of fairy penguins on the beach. These are protected. There is a lot of history here. I am glad that we were able to stay at the "Q"!

We held a office Xmas party in the function centre/resturant and had a great time. The location is well hidden on the banks of the harbour and very quiet. Food and service good which was followed up by the ghost tour at night. Although we didn't manage to see any ghosts the history was very interesting.
