Fab food and brews experience. Helpful service at the bar, both BR (before ribs) when selecting the rack, and AR (after ribs) when purchasing takeaway Kellar Door specialities. Delicious ribs in between too! A must see (and do) in Manly.

For 8 or so years now 4 Pines has built a reputation on selling some of Australia's best beer. That's no mean feat in a country that arguably rates its beer as highly as its wine. And there can be no doubting that its beer is indeed worthy of the hype. The core range of Kolsch, Pale Ale, Amber et al. leaves much of the competition floundering in the dust, consigned to the "also ran" category and its limited release line, known as the Keller Door range, showcases innovation, imagination and genuine craftsmanship in an industry increasingly choked with bland, cynically marketed facsimiles of something that once had taste.

And so it is that 4 Pines has found a home to showcase all these limited release beers; them and them alone. 4 Pines' new restaurant, also called The Keller Door, sits underneath the original Brew Pub and launched with a menu of a quality and character and interest worthy of their exceptional beer. In fact if The Keller Door can maintain the standard to which the kitchen opened some two weeks ago 4 Pines may well become as well known for their food as their beer.

The menu comprises a parade of small plates - think a beautifully tender squid with Morcilla, topped with a seriously punchy salsa, a melt-in-the-mouth rump cap adorned with a livid green Chimichurri and a bubbling, spicy, warming molten Shakshuka with goats' cheese and quail egg. From there it rolls into larger plates, say a Pig Belly, so tender I cut it with a spoon, resplendent with a hazelnutty romesco and a roasted Pumpkin dish with such depth of flavour it could convince even the most ravenous of carnivores to reconsider their live choices.

But the show-stopper of the menu is undoubtedly the Feast dishes. All designed to share - feeding from 2 to 6 people - they appear emboldened at the table side, the Rib of Beef perfectly pink, a whole shoulder of Lamb - "cooked for days" I am told by the smiling, excited, bouncing waiting staff - a burnished bronze colour, adorned with fragrant rosemary and a whole chicken, rubbed in something presumably made by the Gods.

This is, in a word, epic food. I have eaten at The Keller Door 3 times now and will continue to do so as long as the cooking is as good as this and as long as the menu continues to delight as much as it currently does. This restaurant is exactly the kind of place a town like Manly needs; it stands out from the crowded, jostling, Styrofoam world of Burger joints and Pizza palaces.

On a dark rainy night last week I slung myself and 3 friends into one of their leather and wood bound booths, enveloped in the autumnal glow of the low-hanging lights and let myself forget about the world outside for 3 blissful hours. This is a seriously good restaurant with seriously good beer and seriously good food. Service seems genuinely...what is the word....happy? Yes. Happy. It seems everyone wants to be there, from the patrons to the potwash.

I love it here and I hope everyone in Manly - and beyond - will love it too. It deserves to be loved.

Manly beach was amazing, a must see. This place? Great beer, great location and super friendly staff. Be sure to grab a beer here at a minimum.

We stopped by for lunch after a long Manly scenic walk. There were several of their own beers to choose from. My husband enjoyed the cask ale and their stout. I had the hefeweizen and a cider. We had salads for lunch and they were large and tasted great. Bartenders were friendly and super helpful.

We are from Oregon and love microbrews so this was a nice surprise when we got off the ferry. Beers are good although we were disappointed that the IPA was out. The sliders are awesome as is the Asian salad. I liked downstairs better than upstairs--it was more laid back. Service was fantastic!!
