Our family (h&w, three kids 15,13 and 11) stayed for two night in a three bed cottage with a harbour view. The location and view from the cottage was great, and the cottage does come with very nice amenities (crisp beds, bath robes, fridge, m/w, very large tv).

The breakfast buffet had a good selection of fresh fruit side. The warm food selection was adequate in a traditional full English breakfast way. The buffet does not however have a cook there for example to prepare omelettes etc. The beach was also good for a swim, and the museum down there was interesting.

The guest lounge was adequate with a small selection of newspapers and a computer for internet access. The computer even had a printer attached, which would have been a nice touch had someone replaced the ink. In today's age of remote check in by smart phone or internet it would have been useful (and saved us a good bit of time at the airport) had the printer been working.

The printer is probably just one example of a great location let down by a lack of focus on customer needs. We were paying around $800 per night for the cottage, yet the place also wanted to charge an exorbitant amount for wireless internet access and movies. If they had a full range of tv channels with foxtel I could understand charging for a film and internet, but the selection was limited. I also had asked them (albeit on Australia Day) to re[;ace a globe in one of the bathrooms, as the only way to illuminate the bathroom was with the heat light. That is not particularly pleasant on a hot, humid Sydney day. No globe ever arrived, and we had a very hot and unpleasant shower.

The final straw triggering this review came after we left. I discovered I had left an electric tooth brush behind, so called the hotel and asked them to post it to me. I noted their initial reluctance and so offered to pay the postage. I thought it would be less expensive simply to let them charge my credit card for the postage, but the hotel insisted on sending the package cash on delivery, which I am sure was far more expensive and hugely inconvenient for me, a customer who had just spent $1600 staying there! Really poor customer service.

Q Station is the old quarantine station of Sydney, Australia. The hotel is located in a national park, so some things probably couldn't be changed. The grounds are a little bare! The houses, where the rooms are located, are nicely renovated but poorly marked. We stayed in on of the better rooms, but no AC or possibility to open windows (there is a fan!). Storage for clothing is minimal too. There is no pool and the Q's beach is not very inviting. The beaches in Manley are much nicer! Breakfast was very good and the restaurant, for lunch and dinner, is very good but expensive. Still, for a foreign tourist a nice solution to be in the country but very close to Sydney. There are frequent ferries from Manley to Sydney.

This is actually not the Q stations fault. My office made me a reservation as my normal hotel in Manly was booked. I was originally scheduled to stay 3 nights. I didnt bother to look at the website when the booking came thru.

I'm sure it is a great place for a wedding and/or conference. But it doesnt work for me, after an international flight and a late arrival on a day in Sydney where the weather was 35+ and the humidity off the charts. I'm sorry, but I'm too old not to sleep in a room without aircon (I really feel for the developers and the silly national heritage restriction).

The staff were very polite and understanding and our travel person was amazed that the rooms werent air-conditioned, even though it does state it on the website.

We stayed here recently and was amazed at the location.

The rooms have been tastefully renovated without overdoing to much. The room we stayed in had all you needed good bed, small fridge and our own bathroom. The rooms were spotless and cleaned daily.

They have managed to keep the outside of the building in original condition.

The views from the wrap around balconies have unbelievable of sydney harbour.

The grounds have been well maintained and look clean. There is also a great little secluded beach here as well.

The staff are friendly and more than willing to tell you about the history of the area.

There is a courtesy bus that takes you to manly should you feel like a night/day out. These run generally on the hour.

The buffet breakfast was great as well.

Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Q Station is a very unique and special place to stay in Sydney.
It offers so much more than a hotel and has many fantastic things to do and see for a family.

We booked an overnight "Family Fun Package" which was excellent value as it included, breakfast, a kids in-house movie, a kids activity pack & a family pass to Manly Ocean World. The room was a garden view with an external bathroom. We found the room to be very well thought out and the view was oustanding.

The lounge area had a sofa bed which was already made up and next to it there was an external door, a small fridge, ceiling fan, a hand basin, T.V. & table. You can close this room off at night with an internal door. When we came back from dinner our child enjoyed whatching the movie whilst we chatted & watched the sunset on the verandah with a glass or two of wine.

Between the rooms there is a desk, mirror & hanging space. The bedroom also had an external door and a small hand basin and could also be closed off with an internal door. The bathroom was very close by and the "block" of 4 bathrooms was accessible only by key. Inside the block each of the 4 rooms had a numbered bathroom and a separate toilet with a hand basin again using a key to access them. At night the verandah was well lit so you feel very safe.

We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed a swim before dinner. The bus runs every 20mins if you tire of walking up & down all the stairs. We wished we had booked in for another night.

The Q Station is a wonderful place to stay. We were a bit sceptical when we booked mainly because there was no air con and it looked a bit querky. On arrival we were made to feel welcome from the first minute. The reception staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our room had super views towards Sydney harbour. The shuttle service to Manly was reliable and the one day we needed an early start a taxi was booked via reception and the $13 fare was not excessive. We only stayed 3 nights but our bedding was changed after 2. The lack of air con was not a problem as each room has a ceiling fan which worked well. If we ever go back to Manly, we would certainly use the Q Station again. The private beach was accessible by foot via road, steps or shutle bus. The Boilerhouse restaurant was a little expensive but the quality of the food was very good. The shuttle bus leaves Manly on the half hour, the stop is opposite Manly Wharf.

I was surprised with a night here and it's a mixed review I write.
On the positive, it's an excellent place to stay with heaps of history and plenty of places to explore. We spent a good 3 hours walking the place on arrival, watching the boats wander by and generally enjoying the peace. The buildings have been restored/refurbished with a heavy lean towards keeping the history, which is great.
Plenty of interesting facts around, lots of signs explaining the history and some excellent period rooms have been retained. If you wander you will find them, they don't have big red arrows over them :)

For dinner, we went down to Manly to the excellent Many fish cafe and had a Seafood box; 32 bucks, EXCELLENT seafood which was nicely lightly battered anbd not greasy. Sitting on the beachfront eating my fish dinner watching the passing parade was a highlight.

The room we had was part of the dining room block, in what was the 2nd class accomodation. I don't know what the price we paid was but looking at the rack rates, I would think it was a premuim price for a mid-range room. The actual room was typical of a hotel, with LCD telly, bar fridge, comfy double bed, ceiling fan and wall heater. Nothing special, nothing bad.
Ensuite was nice; all new, fully tiled and a bath/shower. Perfectly acceptable.

As per other reviews, the only windows are the doors with curtains and if you forget to close the curtains it can be a bit arkward.

I did note that a number of the end rooms did not have ensuites, and the bathroom is actually outside the room. We found these were typically the end rooms which have the rview over the harbour. Note: Don't get the very end room for the view, the block has a large deck at the end and you sit their with your grog and relax.

We were lucky in that the place wasn't booked out so night noise was not an issue.

However, we were awakened at 0730 on a Sunday by Bogans with a baby who thoiught it was perfectably acceptable to allow it to squeal constantly whilst eating, therefore resonating around the 2 blocks. If you wanted to awake to the sounds of the ocean lapping the shore, the clink of sail boats on the bay... walk away folks, nothing to see here. In fairness, this could happen anywhere and Bogans will get in anywhere.

The breakfast, whilst substantial and buffet style and having just about every option, offered cold hot items. Bit of a let down as the scrambled eggs were great, chippolata sausages were tasty (and lemony) but it was all too cold to be hot by the time you finished your plate.

I've marked this average because as far as hotels go it's nothing special. However, for the spot, the history the views - especially at night, take a camera and a tripod - it rates a excellent. You'll have to decide what part of the place you want to stay here for.
