If you're looking for peace & tranquility, breathtaking views and yet close proximity to Manly, this is perfect - however, it comes at a cost:
1.obnoxious staff - consistently, and I stayed during the season of goodwill, so lord knows what happens during non-holiday periods
2. Air-con - you'll be disappointed
3. Local knowledge - buses do NOT run all-day, they cease at 5pm, so be prepared to climb summits more akin to a Sir Ranulph Fiennes expedition when trekking back from Manly, and don't be conned by the bus schedule, it's 4 yrs out of date (yep, last version clearly marked 2010)
4. Taxis ordered by reception are subject to an additional $3 charge, that is not an issue, but it would be nice to be told by reception
5. If you lose the remote control in your room (the cleaner took ours for the crime of leaving it on the bed), be prepared to wait 3days to get a replacement, after 4 requests and 2 universal remotes that do not work - yes, it was that amusing
6. Need help with your suitcase when checking out? It's okay taxi's will charge you $9 for a trip down to Manly, WRONG, according to a rather convoluted message, taxis will not take more than 1item of luggage, so if you're a couple with baggage it's 2 taxis, or as reception stated 'you can get a bus?' - meanwhile, 2 Q-Station buses drove past us as we stood at the bus stop.....
7. Need ONE extra hour to check-out? Forget it - when asking we were informed 'sorry, we're busy in the morning' - so no checking of schedule, or clarity re-room availability to accommodate the request, just a simple 'blow-out' (coming from a receptionist that was of American descent, I know as I work for an American company with native colleagues - that receptionist was an embarrassment to her country)
8. Be prepared, if the power outages kick in, you'll be drinking warm beer until it's fixed - and don't pin hopes on reception notifying you of issue/status - you actually have to report the issue before they verify what has happened - priceless
Not a rant, just plain facts with simple solutions made difficult by a company who need to take a serious look at the level of employee to customer service.

I liked the place, but you don't make progress by standing still, and you always look to get the basics right, and anticipate/resolve when you are in a customer service driven environment.

Room Tip: Be patient if you have an issue - Mother Teresa style patience. And wear ear plugs, rooms have no wa...

Dear Travelling_Ga

Thank you for your constructive criticism in relation to your stay. All feedback is used as a training tool as we are continually striving to improve the service we provide to all of our guests. Our goal is to put a smile on the faces of our guests every day and it appears that our staff has failed which was disappointing.

The rich history here whilst operating as a quarantine station for 150 years has been actively promoted to our Hotel guests today - which is something we are very proud of.

Thank you again for your feedback and continued support of Q Station. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Q Station in the near future.

Kind Regards,

Zac Hope

It can be no easy task to convert an old Quarantine Station into a .....for the want of a better word, a 'resort' /hotel. Accor have tried hard to make this a resounding success. No easy task !
The natural beauty of this large area of Crown Land (National Park) is a given....magnificent views, proximity to Manly, the sweeping panorama of North Head. This is Australia. AND a very large area to manage.
Staff friendly when actually encountered,& well versed in the history of the Q Station....their enthusiasm for the history, fauna & flora is catching. Thank you guys !
However, there seems not to be enough of them. 'Communication' very poor - in the sense of trying to get a message to a guest virtually impossible. If you need to be somewhere at a certain time - forget it. 'Loop" buses come every 15 minutes to collect people wanting to go to the parking area, reception. Frequently the buses were full...so...another wait in the merciless sun.
Room was private, dark, clean, average size. Average everything really. No A/C - in the height of summer! C'mon !
Checking out was a nightmarish botch up. Long queues. 2 staff.
The 'common rooms' or 'lounge areas' are great..free coffee, tea making facilities, cool places to read.
With 1 exception everyone seemed to be quite elderly or family group.
I couldn't get over the feeling that this was a place where people had been detained, where 1st class passengers (of course) got a better 'deal'.
People suffered here....they were understandably denied contact with the outside world & many died. From smallpox, the great influenza epidemic of 1917, tuberculosis & so on...
The array of Ghost Tours is inappropriate........from VERY SCARY adult tours to kiddies tours.
Expensive - yes.....but it WAS new years eve time. Value for money ? No.
Interesting - yes, romantic - no. Visceral beauty of the place - a 10/10 !
Truly I don't know who I would recommend the Q Station to.

Room Tip: a room with a view, not nestled away & forgotten.....& on higher ground.....do your historic...

If you are looking for somewhere to unwind, with good food and good service all round, this is the place. Hard to believe it is so close to manly, and of course the ferry to the city.
Its location in the national park means that your car stays in the visitor car park, but it wasn't an issue, shuttles were frequent. Menu at the Boiler house restaurant was very nice, but if y,ou are having a longer stay, its a short trip to Manly. Great views, great location.

I stayed in this hotel and you can hardly believe you are in Sydney how removed and quiet this hotel is. It was peculiar that you could not drive your car to your room but you had to leave it at the visitor car park. Their shuttle operates promptly so it is really well organized. The room was small but clean and bathroom was well sized.

We got our keys but our lock was loose so it was hard to open the door once locked and reception was completely indifferent to our complaint (the hotel was virtually empty). Also, our room did not have air con and I have not seen any units on any other rooms - I would not stay there in summer anymore but would come back in any other season.

We had the room facing the water so that was really nice as we could see Sydney skyline from our doorstep. There is guest lounge which opens out to a beautiful balcony facing the forest and water. Also, there is a self serve coffee machine which makes really good mocha and other beverages. Daily newspaper is available and the hotel runs tours of the place as this used to be a quarantine station.

I will stay here again once the weather cools down.
