“Beautiful spot”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

We stayed here two nights with our 2 year old son. The room was lovely and quiet and had all the basics covered.

After check in we were taken by the mini bus down to our accommodation and given a run down on the facilities. We tried to have dinner in the casual dining area but it was impossible with our son which was a shame. The tables are just too high for a small child and there wasn't any high chairs available. We ended up getting pizza to the room which wasn't much to write home about but it filled us up. The second night we went in to town and got takeaway.

We slept very soundly in the very comfy bed and woke early the next day. The mini buses weren't running yet but we arranged a pick up from the night manager to take us back to our car so we could start the day. The only disappointment being that the coffee machine in our guest area wasn't working so I had to make do with instant.

The staff we interacted with were all very lovely, the grounds are beautiful to explore and the rooms are very nice. It's such an unusual place to stay- between the history and the lack of cars and the vast lay-out, you feel like you're a million miles from the hustle of Manly. It's a great place to stay with kids as long as you don't eat there at night. Our toddler was besotted with the mini buses to and from the car.

We'll try it again!

We were dissapointed in the service, in particular the availability of access to the hotel restaurant (none) we were forced to eat at the hotel bar which had no tables available and the food took over an hour to arrive, not our best experience.

The rooms are not airconditioned but that is okay because the cross breeze is always cool. Not all rooms have in suite facilities. But all rooms have a private bath nearby if not in suite. Very holly but amazing views from most rooms. Great alternative to the same old standard rooms when staying in the Sydney vicinity

I will try and find the middle ground here, because this Hotel just doesn't work for me personally. As long as your expectations are not of a five star Hotel then I think it really could be a good option. The positives are many. The location is lovely, it is so close to the city yet so far away from it all. The staff are very friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, it is really quiet, and as long as you have a car it really is a very short drive from the center of Manly. The shower was great but take your own shower gel and soap if you have sensitive skin. The negatives for me, were the beds were hard, the bathroom was very small and had some drain smells, the restaurant may be fine if if you want a long expensive type lunch but no good at all for a sandwich or snack. You may not want to hop in your car and go to Manly to do that and it really is a pity that their snack options are so limited. I would recommend it for families with children, there seemed to be plenty of kids having a good time. This place has some of the essential ingredients of a great hotel but just misses in some areas. If you are paying a reasonable rate it may suit, but it does not compare to the better five star hotels in Sydney with regards to space, little luxuries, comfort and food choices.

Room Tip: make sure you get a room with a harbour view or perhaps a cottage.

We just spent the weekend at the Q Station in Sydney, it was fabulous , you can stay in either your own cottage ( with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, Lounge room, kitchen etc..) or hotel rooms. It is quiet, secluded from the rest of the city yet has all the amenities of a 5 star resort. Beautiful Sydney Harbour views, to enjoy from your room or cottage.

Room Tip: The cottages are great value and can sleep 6 . Everywhere is quiet.

Stayed for two nights midweek with wife and teen son, in one of the 'first class' rooms, so called because they are where first class passengers in quarantine used to stay. Basically two of the original rooms it seems, with the old central corridor walled off to link front and back room as one - lounge (with sofa bed) and main bedroom, with old corridor forming robe and desk area in between. Only four rooms in the block. Great views of the large verandah over the trees to the harbour. Well appointed, quiet and restful.

Due to heritage listing, toilet and shower are a few metres along the verandah, but you don't share with other rooms. SOme other rooms have ensuites, but you don't seem to get the same view in some cases at least. Great 'breakout' facilities - former passenger lounges with nice old world furnishings, coffee machine, free papers, games and books etc. Also a free pool table in one. Very friendly and helpful staff. Onsite restaurant is very good (about $30 a main), but worth it. Pizzas to rooms if you want. Great place to walk around and soak up the history. Guided tour is worth it.

Could not stay for ghost tour unfortunately but have heard it's very good. Good value tariff considering what just a normal hotel room would cost. Takes a bit of walking to get around the site but there's also free shuttle buses on request.

Great place, will definitely go back, ideally with a group of friends next time.

Room Tip: Try for a 'first class passenger' room
