Having read and heard very mixed reviews of Xenos, a Saturday evening in Crows Nest saw the family dining at Xenos in a bid to introduce the kids to a cuisine outside their normal preferences. All up the meal was quite disappointing.
The slow cooked lamb shoulder served up a very strong acidic twang that dominated the very dry meat. A total contrast to the delicate flavours and melt-in-the-mouth experience of the equivalent dish I enjoyed at Medusa's Greek Taverna a few weeks before or the off-the-bone version I enjoyed at berth in Melbourne a few months prior. This followed a less-than-notable, flavorless entree of scallops in a cheese sauce selected off the daily menu.
And while the family generally reported their meals as OK, the "wood fired bread" – normally a moreish Greek staple - ordered for #3 son in lieu of an entree arrives as no more than half a dozen slices of Vienna loaf with a few tubs of butter.
All up, no cause offered for a return.
