“Lived up to the hype”
Reviewed July 27, 2014 via mobile

Took a tip from previous reviews and ordered the prawn stuffed zucchini flowers....Wow. Was suggested as a "share" entree but kept it all to myself. I dare anyone to share theirs.
Main of duck ragu didn't disappoint either. A friend had the barramundi in sea water which was delicious, hubby had the lamb shank which was perfectly cooked & just fell of the bone.
Took bar staff advise and ordered the red from Sardinia which was perfect.
Can't believe such a restaurant exists in "the Shire" .

We were so pleased by our recent dining experience at Giro Osteria. Everything was faultless, the food was superb, service was excellent, and the place was buzzing and had a great vibe. Totally recommend this place for anyone who loves Italian.

“Superb food, but sky-high alcohol prices!”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

This was my first visit to this newly-opened restaurant, whose owners also own and run the acclaimed Alphabet St (Thai) restaurant two doors up in the restaurant row fronting Dunningham Park and the beachfront at the end of the Kingsway in Cronulla. We went there for lunch on an overcast day (lunch commences at 1200 Thursday-Sunday; dinner is from 1800 Tuesday-Sunday).The fitout of Giro Osteria is stark, modernist, severely functional and opens on to the kitchen. The al fresco dining area is considerably larger than the indoor, and the chairs are, with the exception of the hard upholstered lounges at the rear facing out to the park and the ocean, quite severe and French bistro style (i.e. no cushioned seats or upholstery). Of course, you come here for the food, and it doesn't disappoint! There is a modest selection of entrees, including antipasto, served on a wooden platter and with the chef carving the prosciutto as you watch. We enjoyed our bread-and-olive oil combination ($1.00 for a serving of six slices of the freshest bread), also served on a wooden platter, as also was our main course, an entree-sized portion of polpette (Italian meatballs) served in an iron pot, with sizzling tomato paste which retained its heat. Believe me, watch that you don't burn your mouth! The dish was ample for a hearty appetite, and you really needn't go for the fish, pasta, or steak dishes also on offer as mains. Our polpette were $18.00 each and great value. The patate side dish was $8.00, but we could also have ordered a $12.00 greens side or a salad, also for $12.00. We didn't have room for the sweets, so I can't comment on them. The wine list is exclusively Italian, and very good Italian at that, but on the steep side. The median price for the whites seemed to be $55.00 but our house white was superb (a chardonnay/pinot grigio type) and cost $39.00. The restaurant is definitely NOT BYO but, for food of the quality we enjoyed, a bottle of the house white amply satisfies. There is a range of Italian beers, reds and sparkling, so you won't go thirsty. The service was competely professional and very welcoming, even to the point of turning down the volume of the music which we found both disconcerting and intrusive. The memory of those meatballs will linger on....
