Description: Efendy means gentleman in old Turkish, but everyone is welcome here. Located on the corner of Darling and Elliott Streets, in a historic sandstone Victorian mansion, Efendy is a modern Turkish restaurant, complete with a basement bar, run by Istanbul-born owner and chef Somer Sivrioglu. The popular restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering authentic Turkish delicacies, using local and sustainable produce, prepared meze style for sharing. Lounge and chat in the dining area, where the walls are covered in Turkish comic book posters, while you graze away on meze which includes baba ghanoush topped with pomegranate or gobsmackingly good, ordek borek, duck, barberries and cinnamon in thin crisp pastry.

Our group of 6 enjoyed the most delicious lunch, we ordered a mix of plates including the prawns, beef kofte, eggplant bomb, the cauliflower & kale salad and a couple of desserts, every dish was delicious. The service was friendly and professional. Will definately be back.

We ate dinner here with friends on the weekend and ordered the banquet as it seemed to cover all the dishes we wanted to try. The dips at the start included humus, smoked eggplant, and an artichoke dip with peas - all were delicious especially the eggplant dip - they do something very special when it comes to eggplant and it is just so super tasty! We then had pastry with spiced lamb, sumac and peppers which were perfect with a squeeze of lemon and then prawns which were also delicious followed by grilled chicken thighs which were tender and juicy and lamb fillet with smoked eggplant - again the meat was tender and the eggplant divine. A turkish mess for dessert and some turkish pinot noir throughout completed a very beautiful meal. Highly recommended. Plenty of food and everything was super delicious.

It was such a pleasure to come here for breakfast. There are no bacon & egg rolls or smashed avocado on toast or lattes, rather the most amazingly sumptuous spread of dips, assortment of breads, cheeses and meats with bottomless pit serving of apple tea and of course Turkish coffee. Whilst not cheap it was money well spent.

My partner and I decided on a spontaneous visit to Effendy. The venue is great for a romantic dinner. The service was so good, our waiter was friendly and helped us decide on our meals. The atmosphere was great. And lastly the flavours of the food were totally amazing. Definitely worth a visit. My new favourite restaurant.

Wandered in off the street, no booking to be met by wonderful staff who made you feel right at home. Every bite of food was filled with an amazing combination of spice and texture, crunchy tasty vegetables, juicy delicious meats, fresh herbs and breads and hot mint teat to compliment. Sat outside beneath the wonderful trees which grow through the roof of the old mansion it is housed in - absolutely brilliant.
