Description: Efendy means gentleman in old Turkish, but everyone is welcome here. Located on the corner of Darling and Elliott Streets, in a historic sandstone Victorian mansion, Efendy is a modern Turkish restaurant, complete with a basement bar, run by Istanbul-born owner and chef Somer Sivrioglu. The popular restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering authentic Turkish delicacies, using local and sustainable produce, prepared meze style for sharing. Lounge and chat in the dining area, where the walls are covered in Turkish comic book posters, while you graze away on meze which includes baba ghanoush topped with pomegranate or gobsmackingly good, ordek borek, duck, barberries and cinnamon in thin crisp pastry.

Turned up for lunch and had the set menu which did not disappoint we will have to return just to try other offerings from the main menu. The breakfast menu was a set menu only, it appeared quite nice and also a good size. I noticed many people around us leaving quite a lot of breakfast on the serving board uneaten which seemed such a waste! Perhaps some individual selections would assist. Our only complaint; we had to ask for extra bread for the large amount of dips on the first serving, after waiting some time we were told it was in the oven and would be a while. No problem until we saw at least 3 other tables receive extra bread within this period. Very good food and would still return for more.

I always think i can make bacon and eggs and good coffee at home so going out for breakfast on my birthday had to be different. Wow I loved this place. Set menu is $29 ($15 for kids) and you get a huge selection of breads, pastries savoury and sweet, Turkish style eggs and sausage, cold platter or cheeses and meats with lots of relishes and jams etc. Apple tea (yum) or Turkish coffee keeps coming. Good atmosphere in a lovely building. Easy to park for free. Attentive staff and friendly farewell from owner/chef Somer as we left. Great for special occasion.

I've been here for their excellent breakfast before and I had very high expectations for dinner! It started well enough. We were seated near the fireplace which was cozy and very welcome on a cold winter night. Our party of 2 families shared the meze plates which were tasting portions of olives, eggplant and capsicum dips, bite sized fish pickled with orange, assorted cheeses , pear and rocket salad served with pide and Turkish bread. All of the above were flavoursome and fresh. Now for the mains. Beef ribs with pomegranate was good, succulent and falling off the bone but served warm. Fish stew was excellent. Most of us ordered the lamb kebab which turned out to be a poor choice. For $29 lamb kebab I was expecting more than a sliver of lamb (regardless if it was hand chopped by virgins in a remote monastery) served with yoghurt. I thought 250g was the I industry standard for meat. Perhaps it should come with a warning such as order 2 serves. Even my 18 year old daughter who does not eat much said,it was not enough. My son asked to stop by at McDonald's on the way home as he was still hungry! Definitely not coming back for dinner.

Living locally, it is sometimes hard to find a good restaurant if you feel like to eat something different. Efendy has some very interesting and flavoursome dishes that ticks our boxes.
I would recommend eating tapas style and share the dishes.
The prices are a bit on the high side, but you pay what you get.

Breakfast is served from 9 to 2 but only on Sundays. On a nice day request for a table on the courtyard otherwise opt for a cozy table inside. The place is light and tastefully decorated with Turkish knick knacks. It is a set menu with Turkish coffee and tea included. The first thing they bring are the bread rolls including round Turkish bread and logs with nigella seeds. It comes with assorted jams, iron bark honey, quince cherry and fig preserves-all delicious. Assorted cheeses including string haloumi served with grapes watermelon and pistachio halva. Next, the hot stuff, Turkish sausage and a delicious scrambled egg with tomato and capsicum. It was filling but won't weigh you down. Service was excellent-friendly and accommodating .Note to self, must come back for lunch or dinner soon.
