This market is small and is limited to new items. You will not find antiques, collectibles or flea market items. They have some jewlery, clothing, etc. They also had small "international" restaurants for lunch. We look for used, flea market, collectible type items and much preferred the Rozelle Market not too far away from this one.

I've always related a market to a community such as a country village or suburb like Balmain.
Perhaps biased but there seems something special about markets set in such a location in Balmain - it is part of the heritage that keeps Balmain such a special local village type community.
So yes, they may be a little tired, perhaps quirky but it is essential that the traits that have made Balmain so special for so long be kept and supported.
Balmain is a destination place - the main road finishes at the Harbour so to some degree it keeps the tourists out and retains its integrity.

Balmain markets set in beautiful old sandstone church grounds, used to be vibrant and full of character, unusual stalls, great ambience No More.... Such a terrible shame to see what once was a much loved and talked about market, ground to just a few stalls, one by one they have all left, very badly run. Would suggest go to Rozelle markets open Sat and Sunday, good vibe, some treasures to be found, and music and some good coffee shops at this Rozelle end of Darling St.
Happy Hunting.

The suburb Balmain in Sydney is indeed a gem and a favoured spot for seeking accommodation but not yet over-run by tourists. Historic terrace houses, some more than 130 years old, line the street. Great harbour views can be found and cosmopolitan Darling Street has a huge choice of boutiques, cafes and galleries. On Saturdays, which is Balmain Market day, Darling Street is buzzing with life and music and great people watching opportunities. Take the ferry or bus 442/441 from York Street, browse the market, have coffee at one of the trendy cafes or enjoy a beer in one of the many excellent pubs.
