“Very family friendly but dated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013 via mobile

We booked our room in January for a February stay. The website shows a nicely updated room with flat panel tvs and new furnishings. 1984 threw up all over our room. Tiled counters, light colored outdated furniture, full wall mirrors on every wall and very old very small tube tvs that didn't have the best reception. Wifi did not work in our room and sometimes worked in the pool area. We were in the 11th floor with a balcony on the beach and the view was excellent. Our room while outdated, was clean and the housekeeping staff were friendly and did a good job.

Don't bother talking to the concierge- they push timeshares every chance they get which is annoying. The gift shop has a nice assortment of items and decent prices. The tiki bar had average drink prices, with a drink special every day. The food was very good as well. You can get beach and poolside service as well which we used.

You have to pay $15 a day for parking across a very busy street or $20 a day for valet service.

The Starbucks down the road is great and so is the Einsteins bagels. The hotel coffee shop sell Starbucks- it's just brewed hot coffee so we preferred to go down the street to get the real thing. There is a restaurant alled Tony Roma's a couple blocks north of the resort that is very good and I highly recommend their Cadillac Margarita-possibly the best I've ever had!

The pool is super warm but as previously stated the sun goes down early and it gets chilly around noon. The beach also loses sun around 330 in the afternoon from the buildings shadows. The beach is groomed every day and kept very clean. You can rent IMO an overpriced jet ski on the beach as well as your own tiki hut. Everyone has free use of lounge chairs on the beach which is nice.

If you drive north to Hollywood there is a great boardwalk with some nice bar/ restaurants and shops that are family friendly.

On the surface, this is a nice hotel - great pool area, tiki huts, lots of beach chairs, nice looking lobby. Even the rennovated room looks good at first. But then we had a soaked carpet from a leaky air conditioning unit (tons of water damage on the wall etc.). Repeated complaints and repeated robotic "we'll tell engineering to get right on it" replies. Door lock didn't work so housecleaning didn't bother to clean our room until we complained - and then they did a lousy job and came at 5PM when we were changing/showering/relaxing from our day. Rennovated room - very very shabby (carpet is still very old, cheap/poor craftmanship on improvements)

Room Tip: "3rd" floor rooms are actually on the second level. Can be accessed by a nice staircase E...

I do not recommend staying here. Expedia offers a great deal however, once you check in (and check out), there are tons of hidden fees that up the price! The lobby of the hotel looks very nice and semi-updated but the rooms look like they are from the 60's! My room had plasma tv's and my friends room had OLD box tv's. My room (with ocean view) had holes in the blanket and looked as if a cat had scratched it. There was rust on the walls and hinges of the doors. I travel 3 weeks a month for work and so, I KNOW my Hilton chain . . . this hotel had old, yellowish, Hampton shower curtains (obviously this hotel isn't affiliated with Hilton). There were stains on the carpet, cracks in the walls and around the wall sockets. Walls were off colored. We had booked this room for 4 nights and ended up checking out after the first night. Travelers beware!

We were really excited about this hotel prior to our arrival, but our experience beginning with check-in clued us in to the quality of the staff. Check-in was a little confusing, couldn't get questions answered easily. I asked the morning staff if they knew of a coffee place called Aroma (which is right across the street) and they claimed they never heard of it. The coffee shop was annoyed when I mentioned the hotel had never heard of them, considering they deliver to Newport all the time.
But the biggest kicker was receiving our rental car from valet, with a dent. First they denied any wrong doing but eventually they were compliant in filing proper paperwork, we filed a police report, etc etc. HOWEVER, upon instructions we spoke to the morning staff to confirm the report had been filed and we were told they had no knowledge of any report in the first place (again, bad communication).

would not stay here again.

I stayed her recently for a conference. It was a nice room, but the service is bad. I ordered room service the first night and it took almost 3 hours to arrive! Then there was a problem with the bill, which was noticed after the trip. The accounting office has not returned a single call after multiple calls on 5 consecutive days. Basically, hope they don't make an error because you will never get a person on the line to correct the error. Beware of bad business practices at this hotel.

Booked off Expedia, good rate.
Taxi 60$ from cruise ship terminal 45min.

Got checked in at 11:30am, which was great but we believe our room had not finished being cleaned. The bedding and surfaces had been cleaned, but there was a lot of hair on the bathroom floor and fridge was dirty inside. I could have asked for it to be vacuumed but we didn't bother.
No hotel has heat option, we froze at night. Ask for more blankets or space heater.
Room was big, had two big screen TV's, a safe, microwave and a fridge.
Very close to shopping, grocery store, restaurant and bank.
The pool is very nice, but is only sunny until about 2pm. Then it is completely shadowed from the next building. The beach is large and water beautiful. Can be very cold with cloud cover and wind.
I don't know if it's just the season but there were a lot of jellyfish on the beach when it got windy (around 1pm) so i couldn't go into the water at certain times.
There is a nude beach about 10min way. Its interesting :)
To go to South Beach we took the bus which is 2$/person and didn't take that long. The bus stop is right out the door and that bus runs 24hrs,so that was great for us, because this hotel is FAR from south beach.
55$ shuttle service to air port
Great place if you want a pool, restaurant, beach and to be no where near South Beach. But if you do want to be closer pay the extra and stay on south beach. Because you waste the money on taxi and shuttle anyways.

Room Tip: Ask for a heater, rooms can be freezing.
