“Very nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2006

We stayed at the Trump Sonesta in Sunny Isles for 2 nights after staying in the "keys" for 5 nights. The hotel and service was very good. It is what you would expect when you are paying $375.00 per night.
The room was certainly large enough with a very good size bathroom.
The beach was very nice and the the attendants and the wait staff on the beach were very attentative. Surprisingly I found the food and drinks quite reasonable considering you were staying at a resort.
The pool was also very nice but very crowded and both days we had to wait until mid afternoon before we could get chairs around the pool.
Some previous "trip advisors" had made mention of the elevators. Yes the wait could be long, how they only have 4 is beyond me!
With that being said and while the experience at the resort was above average I am not sure it was worth 375.00!

We used to Stay at the Loews at South Beach but they were quite full and asking crazy high prices.. So I browsed the internet and came up with the trump international.

I booked a junior suite and that was much cheaper than a standard room of Loews hotel. Arriving there we had a great service at the desk and also at the door. Quick check-in and the Junior suite was nice.. just like the photos on the internet.

Big room, nice bathroom big bed and a washing machine and dryer so we could do our clothes... this is really great option

The staff at the pool are all very friendly and make you feel real welcome...totally different than to the posh people in the loews.

the area is not a very active area but okay and you are close to the highway and to aventura mall and bal harbour mall and only 15 min from south beach. but it is a very relaxed area not so busy with traffic like south beach..

overall, we are definitely coming back there and also a tip the italian restaurant in front of the hotel is really amazing... further go to China grill at washington avenue... amazing lobster !!

good luck to you all !!

In general, this hotel was very nice -- beautiful lobby & lounge, outstanding ocean view, friendly and responsive staff.

However, for the rating and cost, something was missing. Rooms were attractive, clean and modern - yet completely generic and lacking in detail.

A few glaring problems...

The shuttle busses are USELESS. They only run a couple of times per day - and run a hotel/Aventura Mall/Bal Harbour shops loop -- so in order to go to one (a 5 minute car ride) you are on the shuttle for an hour.

Also, when we went down to the beach at 10am, almost all beach chairs were empty - but when we tried to use one, a beach attendant came over and asked if we had given him money to hold it for us. When we said no, he informed us that all the chairs were being held for other people (?!) Very frustrating!

And finally, be sure to schedule elevator waiting time into your plans. There are only four elevators for 38 floors - and no service elevator - so waits were long and elevators often too full.

For those prices, I expect something special - this wasn't. The Trump brand was everywhere - but I am certain Trump would never stay here.

We booked the Trump bec of some of the reviews on TA and the pictures of the hotel. Big mistake. For the price (approx 400/night) the room was very plain though large enough. In fact, for a hotel that was only three years old, the decor is very, very dated. Reminiscent of the 70's and 80's rather than modern.

The area around the hotel is undergoing a major reconstruction due to the condo craze gripping south Florida right now (even in the face of cat 5 hurricanes!) with a lot of traffic problems, noise, and dust. That's on the Atlantic Ocean side. Across the street are your less than upscale shops of which 7-11 and Denny's are the better offerings. This is not likely to change for at least a decade IMO. Eating at the hotel is expensive and eating outside the hotel is an adventure in finding decent dining outside of either Fort Lauderdale or Miami.

Service for the most part is fine, but the beach attendants need to stop hanging out with each other and start taking cares of their customers.

All in all, the experience was a disappointment though ceratinly not a catastrophe. I most definitely would not return tough since the area is far from being a typical, nice resort setting.

The Trump is just "okay." Plenty of people enjoy this property on a daily basis, but our family found it unacceptable given the rate clase and the expectation created by the web site.

Our family of four booked the Trump given the hotel's four star status and the fact that Mr. Trump lent his name to this property. I would give it two stars max despite the 2005 AAA four diamond award. The entry program was excellent with valet service and smiling staff. The fun ended there. The room, while "oversized" looked out over a parking lot with a Burger King situated front and center. The decor while "elegant and contemporary" was bland and uninspiring at best. A handle in the shower fell off and the shower door would not open once my son was inside. Engineering did respond promptly. Grease (food) stains graced the wall and our view of concrete and asphalt was depressing. The internet access was good and, ultimately, provided the research for our departure.

Given the $345 rate, this family had high expectations. If it sits on a 3 acre site, I would be surprised. I had always thought resort meant at least a few more acres of land. The infinity pool was less than inspiring especially given the fact that is sits in shade most of the afternoon because it is on the east side of the hotel. Pool attendants were nowhere in site nor were towels. The concrete deck pavers look like they were from a house in a bad subdivision. The narrow walkway out to the pool from the lobby left the impression we were walking through the servants access route. A large meeting was being held so there were not many families present, but lots of "badgies."

Our issues were well received and handled professionally and promptly by front office staff. We were allowed to depart after 2 hours to an alternate location without a charge. The front desk associate said to my wife about other guests, "this has happened before." This property, part of an overbuilt neighborhood, is a dissapointment to this family seeking more. For a similar rate class, we drove to the Ritz in Manalpan (W Palm) where we enjoyed ourselves immensely amidst grace and true elegance.

This resort is nice but it's a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng way from South Beach. Without traffic, probably 30 minutes. During rush-hour, a whole hour!!!There's no action at night and there's nothing nice in the area. Across the street sits a Burger King and a Publix, nothing fancy. The beach area is not crowded, which is good. However, can we say senior citizen alert? Trump really needs his rear whooped for charging $400 per night for a room that isn't even overlooking the beach. Another piece of advice to travelers is to not book through Expedia or any other outside traveling agency. I requested an oceanfront room but was given a bay view. When I spoke with the front desk manager, he told me there was nothing he could do and said that the hotel was completly booked with oceanfronts. When contacting Expedia, they told me that they had no records indicating my waterfront request. Now, back to the hotel's amenities--The restaurant on the second floor is mediocre. We ate breakfast there twice and opted for the buffet which was $25 a head. It only featured omelets (cooked to order), eggs, sausage, potatoes, bacon, fruit and pastries. Please don't think you're getting a Vegas-style buffet. It's far from it. Nope, I don't think I'll be staying at the Trump again...he's FIRED!!!

We stayed here for 3 nights (Feb 24-27). It was an all around positive experience! Great service, extremely helpful and courteous staff. Our room had the most incredible view of the ocean. We had junior suite which looked practically brand new. Very clean which is very important to me as I am quite fussy about that. I was a balcony room on the 29th floor and we looked out right over the ocean. Great amenities. We had a washer and dryer in our suite which came in real handy since we had been travelling for a bit of time. The bathroom was nice and big. It had a separate tub and glass walk in shower. King bed was very comfortable. Many channels available, more specialty channels than most hotels offer. high speed internet access was quick. We had ordered room service quite a few times for breakfast and it was great. Pool area was nice except the hot tubs were closed the entire time we were there. We saw them working on it but they never did open them.

All in all very nice experience. We would stay here again. Oh and by the way, Il Terrazza restaurant across the road was fabulous. Great service and great pizza!
