Acqualina Resort & Spa on the Beach
Ranked #1 of 10 Hotels in Sunny Isles Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 5, 2007

My wife and I and one year old son just got back from the Acqualina Resort, we were there from Sept. 2nd to the 5th for 3 nites (at $300/nite- great bargain!). I really can't think of anything negative to say about any aspect of our vacation. The staff was beyond courteous (from valet to waitstaff to pool staff to cleaning service). We have stayed at many other fantastic 5 star resorts from the Kea Lani in Maui to Ritz Carltons, to the Breakers, to Four Seasons resorts and to be quite honest, the Acqualina experience surpassed them all.
The food is first rate and the portions are large. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated and incredibly clean. The pools are immaculate (make sure to ask for Edgar at the large pool area - he can help you rent a cabana (complete with a flat screen).
This is a real jewel in the Ft, Lauderdale, Miami area and has not become too commercialized as of yet and I hope it stays that way. But, if you are looking for either a romantic getaway, a family vacation (they could not have been more attentive to my one year old son- leather high chairs, food made to order) or even a business trip destination.. then this is a place to go..they also do not nickel and dime either which is a pleasure.
Overall a 5 star resort in every sense of the word, a once in a lifetime experience and totally relaxing getaway for this New Yorker!

What an amazing hotel! From the moment we stepped inside, we knew we had chosen the right place. To get straight to the point-the service was unbelievable. Every staff member stopped to greet us with a smile. Our every need was attended to. The hotel had inquired about our children before we came, asking for their names, ages, etc... When we got to the room, there was a card for them along with some cookies as a little welcome treat. The crib was set up with a blue and white pattern (I'm sure they have it in pink too...) along with some special baby soaps and shampoos. They even thought to include some rubber ducks for the bath... The pool area was gorgeous. We spent our entire vacation at the pool. The zero entry was a big plus for my young son while my older kids enjoyed swimming in the deeper area. They kept offerring us small smoothies which was a nice touch. The chairs were so comfortable, not your typical hotel type of lounge chair. They had real cushions and were set up nicely. The beach area was also really nice. Bottom line, whether you're coming with kids or just as a couple (the tranquility pool looked great), this is the place to be... One thing to add-Chancy at Concierge was unbelievable. She made our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. If you need anything, she's the one to go to.

Just returned from a very wonderful weekend as a Mother/Daughter weekend at Acqualina. First impression was that it is a gorgeous hotel building but the front door service seemed very young and inexperienced. The gentleman that walked me to my room, just left me w/ my luggage right inside our room. He did not bother to explain anything or point out any of the features of the room. He was very nice, but just seemed very timid. Our guestroom was amazing! Huge & luxurious and the decor was beautiful.

Room Service took a long time on Monday morning; when I called to check on the status of the Room Service order 2x, I was told "its on its way" both times. It was a pain to ask for Ice, as "Room Service" has to get you this and you can not just grab the ice yourself. Each time, took about 15 minutes. A couple times our Turn Down Service in the evening would just refresh our towels in the bathroom but not do any of the other touches that you would expect of a hotel of this caliber.

For Sunday Brunch, we had to wait for 25 minutes for a table outside due to a private party taking place inside. And the hostess was nice, but again, just very young and inexperienced.
When we did get seated we had the best server. His name was Juan Carlos from Columbia. Such a delight and very genuine.
The brunch was delicious, but the only downfall was our Omelett making guy. He was the rudest and unhappiest person making omelettes. He just seemed liked he hated his job and hated having to make an omelette for me.

For the positives of our trip:
-Juan Carlos our server was great!
-Joe and Sara, evening bartenders in Aria are so great! Joe is just so great and happy to please his guests!
-Chauncey, from Concierge is amazing and so nice and pleasant to talk to!
-Pool/Beach Crew - all of them were great and always there to help you out! My only complaint here is that the outside lunch menu is very limited and they close rather early if you wanted to grab a drink in the early evening outside.
-IL Mulino - Brian, Maitre'd was so great and personable!
-ESPA - very nice, had a great massage by Felipe, great spa overall, but nothing that is so out of this world like I haven't been to before.

Overall...loved the hotel, but they definitely have some service issues and some very young and inexperienced staff that need to be trained better to be working at a luxury property like a Rosewood Hotel. At this point, I'd go back to the Four Seasons located in downtown Miami vs. this hotel if you are looking for the ultimate service experience.

The Acqualina was phenomenal. Our get away retreat was designed to refresh my very tall, handsome, loving and extremely overworked husband and to see old friends. Our vacation at the Acqualina was outrageously wonderful and met every expectation with verve!

We arrived early and were greeted at the front door by extremely helpful doormen and attendants who whisked our luggage to a secure location as we checked in. Melissa was our front desk receptionist and was very pleased to tell us that we had booked one of the most beautiful suites on the property. Our suite was not quite ready, so she escorted us to the AAria, a beautifully scenic restaurant and patio overlooking the ooh-so inviting sun kissed ocean. After our tasty breakfast, we strolled down to the beach and sat in the lounge chairs on the very lovely manicured lawns facing the beach. The beach attendants were present yet unobtrusive and service was excellent.

We finally tore ourselves away from this serene setting and we were escorted to our room. The door opened and "voila." We were again wonderfully surprised as the extraordinary view of the aqua rich ocean filled the room. The patio spanned the entire length of the suite, which gave us awesome views of the magnificent sunrise or even rainshowers dancing across the far regions of the ocean.

The room itself was sumptuous and elegant, decorated with cream sofas and dark wood furniture. The bedroom was lush and simply a delight to fall into at the end of every adventurous day. The large gourmet kitchen (large enough for entertaining - so we did!) featured granite counter tops, wine rack, diswasher, Sub-Zero refrigerator and all the extras. Not to mention the extremely lavish french-inspired bath complete with Jacuzzi tub, seperate shower with multiple shower head, expansive counters and a well appointed organizer closet.

THE SPA was transforming. I arranged for my husband to have 3 hours of pampering to release him from visions of building permits dancing through his head. We met by the hot tub once his facial, body scrub, scalp and body massage were completed and he said it was the best massage he's ever had. Yes, I was also being pampered with facial and body polish while he was in la-la land, and decided to ship several ESPA products home. I especially enjoyed the custom designed steam room, second only to the long luxurious treatments.

There is so much to rave about. Il Mulino New York was a culinary feast. Service was exceptional. Chauncey in Concierge was extraordinarily proficient in giving ideas and arranging every request. The front desk was very helpful, George and Andre, thank you. Even Marie and the other housekeepers were friendly and gracious. Magnificent vacation! We will absolutely return.

Recent 5 day stay at the Acqualina was perfect. Upgraded (not by request) to a large brand new one bedroom suite with 500 (at least) sq foot terrace over looking the pools and ocean. The hotel is kept in perfect shape as was the suite. The level of service FAR EXCEEDED all other places that I have stayed in south Florida which includes other 5-star properties. The restaurants are first rate for all three meals. Housekeeping was the best I have had anywhere including the Far East.
The other wonderful thing is their was no "nickel and diming" for cabanas or lounge chairs or resort fees. That makes it a pleasure. The SPA is phenominal (although slightly pricey). The staff is freindly and abundant. If only the hotel was in south beach.

Nice resort, very confortable rooms, nice location by the sea (but the hotel is far from any attraction, good food but the hotel is under staffed (but nice people trying their best), long wait to get your car, extremely minimal breakfast buffet where you can wait forever just to get a coffee, people at reception not knowing anything. It is like all employees are here by themselves and don't know what they are supposed to do. Also, it is hard to understand why they are 7 people at the beach and one at the restaurant ?? And lots of annoying details, like no DVD but 4 tvs in the room.. For a resort with rooms over $2.000, they should buy themselves a DVD!
Room service food excellent. Pool perfect for children. Spa not spectacular.

We were looking for the perfect hotel to celebrate our anniversary and found it at Acqualina. After countless searches and reviews posted onTrip Advisor, we felt that Acqualina offered what we were searching for - a quiet, relaxing, upscale oceanfront hotel, away from the sometimes tackyand noise-filled South Beach.

Based on positive reviews, we booked a long weekend in mid-June, pretty much off-season for the hotel. We were impressed from the moment we arrived! From the personal greeting and escort to our room, to the fabulous bottle of champagne waiting for us in an ice bucket, we knew we were in the right place. The lobby, grounds and pool areas were all gorgeous. The beach was lovely, we enjoyed having our chairs and umbrellas set up for us each day. I do agree with previous reviewers that service on the beach was a little lacking. One day we wanted to order drinks and a snack. We requested a menu and then were never approached again to place our order. It all worked out, because shortly thereafter a huge thunder storm rolled in. So, instead, my husband went to a liquor store down the street and bought all the ingredients to mix cosmos in our room. There is a full bar service in room, but the prices are a little ridiculous - $42 for a small bottle of vodka! We fixed a drink and sat in our beautiful sitting room and waited out the storm. The rooms are positively beautiful, very serene and tastefully decorated. We slept incredibly well each night, with no outside noise from other rooms or in the hallways to disturb us.

We did not dine at the hotel, as we prefer to dine at local area restaurants. South Beach is a short drive away and there are some great upscale restaurants there. Nearby is a Tony Roma's - much better than I thought - great ribs and such. Also nearby are places to grab coffee and bagels or an inexpensive breakfast - almost directly across the street is a nice restaurant/deli, in a little strip mall. They sell a large selection of prepared foods, sweets, coffee and espresso drinks and offer breakfast daily. Very nice staff too. Additionally, across the street are various 7-11 type stores where cold beer, soda and snacks are sold. Much better than paying $10 for a beer at the hotel bar. For those of you from the northeast, there's even a Dunkin Donuts a few miles south on Collins Blvd.

In summary, Acqualina is a 5-star experience and we hope to celebrate our anniversary there again next year.
