“A Tropical Hideaway at the Quiet End of Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

My husband and I have just returned from a week in Guayabitos and recommend Villa Corona del Mar highly. The Villa itself is lovely and comfortable, and the ocean-view rooms (we stayed in El Toro) offer "million-dollar" views of the Jaltemba Bay for considerably fewer pesos! This is the kind of place where one enjoys getting to know owners and staff, and Sean, Karen and Mike, Victor, and Michele couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Ana prepared wonderful breakfasts, which can be a challenge for some since we don't eat meat. She responded with the poise of a confident chef and produced something different and tasty each morning.

Since summer is low season, nothing was crowded either at the Villa, on the beach, or in town. Still, weekend nights were lively in the commercial zone, so we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere in the residential zone surrounding the Villa. Via the beach, it's a 5-minute walk to outdoor/palapa cafes (try Luca or Familia Vargas) and 10-15 minutes to the heart of town where there are good restaurants (try Los Tulipanes, Pizza Mona Lisa, and La Ola) several supermarkets, ATMs, and shops selling anything one might need at the beach. We rented a car in PV and used it to explore other towns along the Bay but usually walked in Guayabitos. Taxis are inexpensive so a car isn't necessary, but the beach at Guayabitos is made for walking. With its gentle slope, fine, compact sand, and lack of pebbles, it's truly a place for those who enjoy getting out on foot.

The Villa's two pools were spotless and flowering shrubs, palms, and banana trees create a beautiful atmosphere in the large courtyard. Although well maintained, not much is new and slick here--like Guayabitos itself, the Villa is a relaxing antidote to internationalized, corporate resorts in which folks avoid Mexico instead of embracing it. We enjoyed playing tennis on the funky court with very little room behind the base lines. A purist might object, but it was a fun place to work on one's volleys or try to push one's opponent back with topspin shots that drove him/her to the back fence! And how often does a person have a chance to play on a court festooned with tropical foliage and newly-fallen mangos? The guests' kitchen was a convenient place to store beer, wine, and snacks and the open-air lounge had satellite TV so we didn't miss Wimbledon! With that and free WiFi, we felt far away from the usual information overload without being entirely isolated.

It's a big world with many places to see, but Guayabitos is the kind of place people return to and the Villa is a super place to stay.

Room Tip: Ocean-view rooms on the second floor have comfortable balconies from which to watch sunsets over the...

Thank you for your comments regarding the Villa and the unique restaurants and spots around Rincon de Guayabitos.

We pride ourselves..and running a place that slightly different than the rest of the bungalow and hotel operations in Guayabitos..we have found, through the years..and based on many, repeat guests it seems to work..we're not a cookie hotel chain...it has been, as well, a base for many seasoned travelers to use while exploring the coastal and mountain towns here in Riviera Nayarit..

Of course, we wouldn't be what we are without our great staff..Kudos to them for all their hard work and smiles, making your stay even more pleasant..sometimes..as a traveler..you just want to get the "insider information" about the area..nobody knows Nayarit better than our staff..they'll guide you in the right direction for food, tours and exploring Nayarit's Hidden areas..

.!'d like to add a recent discovery of my own..that was a great find..and I've been here for 15 years!!!

Hands down the BEST Hamburger in Guayabitos is Juan's Place..at the South End of the Beach..next to Pineda's Restaurant...go and order a Hamburgesa if you're hungry..and be prepared to be suprised!!!

Yes..the back court on our tennis court.is slightly less than offcial size..so don't forget to Lob and Lob often!!!

Thank you so much!!

Villa Corona, located on the north side of the beach - and away from the crowded downtown beach, is a wonderful B&B. THe hotel itself was build in the '70 and if you're into this unique mexican arquitectural style, this is a great example. While old, the place is kept impeccably clean and the staff is very attentive and helpful. You cannot beat Corona's location, literally 20 steps from spectacular guayabitos beach with its calm waters, clean sand and and a picturesque island right on front. Some rooms have full ocean view with a balcony to watch the sunset from your room. Theres is a large pool, again 70's style, but very well kept. Villa Corona is quite a walk to town ( 15min) but inexpensive taxis abound and the location is really a plus to avoid the crowded downtown beach area. All in all a great place to stay.

Room Tip: ask for ocean view suites

Thanks for your comments regarding the Villa!.., although the property was built around the mid-80's we have always believed in maintaing the property as clean and comfortable as posible..no matter where you've been that day..trekking through the Jungle or exploring one of our beautiful beaches..we want you to consider the Villa as your home away from home.It is your beach house..We've also invested heavily in upgrading many of the instalacions and features around the Villa..that we hope will make you, the guest feel even more comfortable...

I stay at the villa every year for two weeks. After my first visit there I knew I had found my home away from home. The combination of location, excellent breakfast, cleanliness, awesome staff, beautiful grounds, ocean views and small boutique feel keeps me coming back! Having owned and operated a hotel on the Oregon Coast, I appreciate all they do to make me feel welcome and taken care of year after year.

Room Tip: I have stayed in all room types and enjoyed them all. There is not a bad room here. The master suite...

Nancy,

Thank you for once again, staying with us and sharing your comments..we have tried very hard in the last 12 months..to do upgrades around the villa in furnishings, new breakfast menus and new fabrics and colors in all the public areas..we also have also integrated new management..into the villa which we think has added to the guest experience..we hope, in the future that when you think about coming to Rincon de Guayabitos and book with us again!
The annual festival in El Capomo is a hidden gem..that very few guests know about..and is really only a short distance from the Villa..it is less known that the festivals in La Penita and Las Varas but just as interesting..I encourage our guests to try new places while staying at the Villa..next year..I might suggest a trip to El Capomo to experience their fiesta!!
Thanks again and best wishes,

Sean

This was my kind of vacation. The Villa is charming and intimate. We had quite and privacy when we wanted it and the opportunity to engage with other guests. We made many new friends during our stay and felt right at home. The staff and owners were very attentive to our needs and a pleasure to be around. The location is perfect, just far away enough from the tourist area that we didn't have to listen to loud music at night but rather fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean; and close enough that the shopping in Guayabitos and La Penita were within walking distance.

A stay at the Villa is a delight and wonderfully relaxing. The facilities, breakfasts, staff, etc., are all excellent. The rooms at the front have a wonderful view of the bay and overlook the beautiful, long, uncrowded, sandy beach. There are lots of good restaurants in Guayabitos and La Penta, and if you don't feel like walking to get there, taxis are plentiful and inexpensive. The best part of of staying at the Villa is falling asleep at night hearing the sound of the waves and feeling the warm breeze coming in from the open balcony doors. My wife and I have vacationed twice at the Villa and plan to return again this year.

Room Tip: The rooms on the second floor facing the ocean have the best view.

We fell in love with Guayabitos years ago. Discovering that the gorgeous Villa I had always admired from the beach was a B&B was a delight. Each time we return to Villa Corona del Mar we find it harder to leave and start thinking about our return. The best part is that the owners and staff truly make everyone feel like we are sharing their home. The service is impeccable, we can't wait to see what Anna has cooked up for breakfast. Victor is there to handle any possible need and Sean will recommend something to suit any sightseeing or dining desire. The house is gorgeous, the pools are immaculate and we take advantage of the tennis court. Can't wait to go back - thanks again for a stellar vacation! We miss you already.

Room Tip: We love the rooms facing the ocean which is just steps away from the Villa.

Thank you Carol,

We appreciate the feedback and we're glad you had an excelent time at the Villa..Victor, our manager has been with us just under a year and is doing a fantastic job..we're glad to offer all our guests tips and tricks about getting around Guayabitos and the surrounding areas..it seems, after talking to a lot of our guests over the years..that they use the Villa as their base for exploring Riviera Nayarit to the North and South..with great places to check out like Platanitos..and San Blas..you can make a day trip of it..have breakfast at the Villa and then be off to explore Crocodile sanctuaries like La Tovara and the Historical Areas of San Blas.

We're rotating our Breakfast Menu as the Fall Season changes to Winter..with different Egg Specialties and new pastries...we also have offered Hot Chocolate using Mexican Chocolate for those cool mornings..is there such a thing in Guayabitos??!!!

Thanks again and we hope to see you next year..remember BOOK EARLY to get the room preference you want as our winter birds tend to book as much as 10 months in advance..

Thank you for your business,

Kay, thanks so much for your comments..while it's true that a lot of guests do return and select their favorite rooms year after year..there are other great rooms with awesome views..one of my favorites is the Lancheros room..you can catch Punta Raza to the South of Jaltemba Bay at sunset..and check out the islands and people walking on the beach..

Just to let you know..we've expanded our breakfast offerings..and have included more tropical fruits daily and a cheeseboard..

A reminder to book early especially if it's for the winter months like January and February..

Take Care and we'll see you down here,
