Decameron Los Cocos
Reviewed February 22, 2012

This is our second trip to Mexico and first time in Guayabitos. It was such a great small town feel with very friendly people. The hotel Decameron was a great place to stay. The staff was always smiling and happy. They where always cleaning and fixing things. The food was great with lots of variety and thats coming from a picky eater. There was lots to do on and off the resort. We did lots of walking around in the daytime/nighttime and never felt unsafe. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: We stayed in Los cocos 1 by the elevators. It was very quiet day and night.

This was our 4th visit to our Mexican home away from home, and it just keeps getting better and better. The folks that are our family at the resort keep going above and beyond to ensure our visit is perfect in every way shape and form. THE STAFF TRULY ARE 5 STAR!!!

The food at the buffets is always plentiful and lots of variety.
The animation staff always add something new to the shows and to the beach activities, they've even downed the volume on the beach somewhat!!!

Need information on the area, want to know where something is, the translation of something, even some minor medical advice on what to put on that nasty sun burn you got? Talk to Jose at the bellmans desk. This young man is a true gem for the resort.

Julio the guest services manager can help you get the room you actually booked, or make arrangements to get that no pressure shower, dripping faucet, plugged toilet, burnt out light bulb, whatever the problem may be, he GET'S IT DONE NOW!!!

Vincent from Nolitours is all that and a even a little bit more. He's a great guy and helpful with any and all tours and activities you may want to look at.

The resort as a whole is always being cleaned, painted, trimmed, pruned, and fine tuned, and each of the four times we've been there, there has been marked improvements.

The town of Guayabitos is still just a old town sleepy fishing village. It's as quaint as always and safe to walk the streets day or night. The people throughout the town are friendly and helpful.

I am scared though as a Subway franchise is opening up there and the americanization of this gem may be on it's way. First Subway, then KFC, then a Dominos, and before you know it a Walmart and Costco. I hope I'm wrong but I've seen to many corners of the planet destroyed by american greed.

We first visited this All-Inclusive hotel 20 years ago when it was pretty basic but a lot has changed in that time. While the rooms are still very simply furnished, the beds are new and, by Mexican standards, very comfortable. The whole place has been redecorated in a very attractive, if somewhat garish, colonial style. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the food in all three restaurants. The bar service was excellent. There were lots of palapas on the very lively beach and a plentiful supply of white plastic chaise longues, which got rather hard to sit on for long. A $4.00 air mattress bought on the beach solved that problem for many guests.A particularly nice feature was the Beach Club in Los Ayala, just a 5 minute bus ride away by the once daily hotel shuttle, where there was an open bar, change facilities, lots of palapas and a beautifully quiet beach with excellent swimming. The hotel even brought over an excellent buffet lunch each day.
We were pleased to find (28 Jan 2012) that about a third of the guests were Mexican and the rest almost entirely Canadian.

Room Tip: Cocos 1 has an elevator, none of the other buildings do

We loved our week at los Cocos. Very clean, super friendly, well managed, unpretentious food, charming Mexican families, affordable; we'd come back. If you are hyper sensitive to boisterous noisy fun, don't come. If you have a sense of entitlement about gourmet food, this is not for you. The food was plentiful and varied. There was always juices, fresh fruits and veggies, fresh baking, cheeses, soups but some of the entrees were a wee bit greasy. Yet we enjoyed every meal. The wine is drinkable. The bar drinks a bit on the sugary side but the tequilas were fine. The bartenders were generous. Los Cocos has a huge variety of rooms. Our had a private balcony and looked west towards the surrounding hills with a little bit of sea view. It was a little close to the kitchen though. Some of the kitchen staff, very early and very late, need to keep their voices down. What charmed us most was the delightful multi-generational Mexican families who use this resort. You've never seen so many beautiful and unspoilt children! The town of Guayabitos is a bit tacky and full of gringo pensioners but you can walk to the village of Ayala with its quiet beach. The beach in front of Los Cocos is very safe for children as there is almost no surf but it does not have a great area for serious swimmers when the tide is out. It is unsafe to swim out of the buoyed area because of the number of motor boats that keep whizzing in and out of that little southern cove of the bay. For the price, it's a great value. The drive from PV airport is interesting and not too long.

Room Tip: a great variety of rooms. Cocos 4 is quieter but a bit dull.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks over christmas and New years and we had a fabulous time. We stayed in Cocos 4 and even though it is a little far from the beach it is well worth it. The resort itself is a little dated, but we knew that going in so we were prepared since it is only a 3 star. The food was not too bad, but after the first week we started going to the local restaurants which are really quite good. We found it quite remote and far from Puerto Vallarta as it is quite expensive to get into town so we stayed close by Guayabitos. The beach is quite wonderful although the sun sets quite early, so there is no real sunset at this resort. If you are not looking for fancy and do not want to be by the action, this is a great place to stay. The staff is absolutely wonderful and make you feel very welcome. We would stay here again.
