Who would ever stay in a hotel again, when you can rent on of San Pancho's casitas, each with a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and an outdoor patio or terrace? There are only three adorable apartments, surrounded by sumptuous flower gardens and right there is the pool, bi-level, surrounded by palm trees and flowering hibiscus. You feel like you've walked into a tropical photograph. The Inn is located San Pancho, a tiny village with a handful of restaurants on the main street which ends in blue, blue ocean. Eileen and Tory, our hosts, were gracious, telling us where to go, eat, explore. They even pointed us to a day of snorkling in nearby Puerto Vallarta. But we were sure happy to get back to the solitary charms of San Pancho after that big city. SP is what PV was like 40 years ago—small, real, a sense of the fishing village it still is. Just take your margarita down to the beach and watch the sunset.

If you were going to conjure up a little Inn for the two of you (kids ok if you’re so inclined) you may want to take a few cues from this place. Ocean views, a swimming pool big enough to swim in, comfy lounge chairs you can have your pick of, (shade, sun or a little of both). You’d want your own casita and here you can choose from cozy all the way to “Omigod I want to move in and never leave”. We chose the latter. It came with shelves lined with books we wanted to read, a kitchen you’re embarrassed not to use (the restaurants in town are superb, lively and not too pricey) and luxurious bedding. You do have to walk about 8 minutes (slow walk) to the beach. Or not – the ocean views and pool make the actual ocean optional some days. Heather, the innkeeper, fills you in on everything from restaurant tips, to the local polo match, to directions to bustling markets in this town and near by ones. You can have a massage in your room, a chef come to use that kitchen, meet interesting other guests, watch the sun set and generally enjoy life in a little Mexican town that’s been on the verge of taking off (and thankfully has not yet) for years. Unlike some of the other also very gorgeous Inns, this one is a short walking distance from the main street of the town, so we went for early morning cappuccinos at a little café – point being you do not need a car once you are here. From being picked up at the airport to getting to know the very friendly resident cat, this place would be very much as you imagined – only perhaps slightly better. Highly recommended.

My husband and I hadn't been to Mexico in nearly 10 years. We heard through friends about a small village just north of Puerto Vallarta called San Pancho. They said the beach was stunning, the restaurants were great, and that it was the prettiest place they had been to in Mexico. Best of all, they said it remained a true Mexican village without any of the hordes of tourist that have spoiled so many resorts with over development.
So we went online and booked at the Inn at San Pancho for a much needed January vacation. The town was everything our friends said it was, absolutely charming. The bonus was the Inn. We stayed in Villa V!, a large "casita" with a beautiful veranda, full kitchen and a living space that made us feel we were really in Mexico. We walked to a different restaurant every night, and really cannot say which we liked best because they were all so good. We loved sitting at La Playa on the beach at sunset drinking Mojitos as much as we loved Ava's rooftop taco stand.
In short, great beds, great ambiance, great pool, and great little village. We'll be back.

What can I say? This was my first trip to Mexico, and I could not have found a better place to stay. My intentions were to completely escape, relax and decompress as a gift to myself after graduating. I didn't have any trouble doing this, in fact, I think it is impossible to not feel serene and relaxed at the home of the Gata Gorda!

Whenever I book a stay somewhere, especially on the internet, I always leave myself open for some amount of disappointment. This was far from the case with the Inn at San Pancho. When I first walked on to the grounds of the inn, I realized that it was everything that I could hoped for and more. I felt so lucky to have landed at this destination. I immediately felt calm, safe and elated all at once!! At the risk of sounding cliche', I felt like I had entered into a garden sanctuary amidst the heat of Mexico's sun. I quickly hunkered down to unwind.

The property and gardens are artfully designed, lovingly maintained and blooming over with a tropical mix that includes fruit trees, agave and hibiscus. I would have to say that the focal point of the property, aside from the stunning view of the ocean, is the cobalt blue tiled pool. I spent a good portion of each day reading poolside, and took a dip every morning and every night. I stayed in the Casita Agave that was decorated beautifully with respect to traditional art and culture, while being comfortably equipped with all that I needed for my stay. My favorite part was breakfast on the veranda (local mangoes and lychees) with the view of the mountains, the ocean, and the sounds of the village below. The lovely and smiling staff paid close attention to my needs and kept the place spic and span every day. The inn keepers themselves are two warm and charming women, who have thought of every detail to make this inn a mini slice of paradise, replete with the warmth of a home away from home (they even arranged for an in house massage on the veranda...I would highly recommend it!).

The only downside to my stay, was that it ended. This trip actually made me fantasize of retiring to Mexico! The Inn at San Pancho is a perfect stay. It is luxurious, but not pretentious. It is warm and inviting, yet it has air conditioning! It feels private and secluded, still it is central to the beach and town. It is the perfect place to come home to after a day at the beach or on the town. When I do finally return to Mexico, I know exactly where I will be staying; The Casita Agave at The Inn at San Pancho. . . my home away from home.

We enjoyed a perfect family reunion for Thanksgiving week at the Inn at San Pancho. Family came from Massachusetts, New Mexico, and California. Each family had its own well-appointed villa. This was a great arrangement for everyone. We were picked up at the PV airport in the owner's spiffy van, stopped at the MEGA (Mexico's answer to Costco) with its great bakery and deli to stock up on food, then took the "Jungle Road" up to unspoiled San Pancho. As family arrived, they couldn't wait to hop into the lovely swimming pool and relax after their long journeys. Their were plenty of activities enjoyed by adults and children alike, including the beach at San Pancho, trying out the great food in town, going on sunset horseback rides on the beach, watching the local Polo matches from our own front row table, swimming with the surfers at nearby famous Sayalita beach, and my personal favorite - going to the water park and swimming with the dolphins. All in all it made a wonderful family vacation and cultural experience.
