“Excellent food, unique atmosphere”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

I was recently in San Pancho for a wedding and came to Mar Plata twice during my stay. The restaurant is great, open air overlooking the sea (through some villas!) and towards the sunset. There are tons of Moroccan lamps hanging overhead making the restaurant unique and romantic.

The first visit was for a dinner with the family. The food was excellent although, albeit a bit expensive or pretty comparable to US prices. The steaks were very tasty and grilled Argentinean style. Fish dishes were creative and light. I enjoyed my arrachera (skirt) steak the most of any of the other dishes ordered.

The second visit was for a wedding rehearsal dinner - well organized with a great appetizer hour plus a tasty sit down dinner. There was plenty of staff and we never had an issue getting food or drinks.

Recommended for people staying out in Costa Azul but also worth a trip from town, or even from Sayulita!

“Great meal and service”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

Glad we found this "out of the way" place...well worth the trip from Sayulita! Was a great meal from start to finish. Definitely get the red snapper tartare to start! cool setting, as well...and loved the lighting.

“Delicious and beautiful restaurant”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Whenever we are in Punta Mita we drive to Sayulita for boogie boarding and the next town over (San Pancho/San Francisco) for dinner at Mar Plata. It's beautifully decorated with lots of hanging Moroccan lamps, and the food and drinks are top notch. The fresh fish entree is always spectacular, and there is a great selection of steaks if you've had your fill of all the local fresh seafood. I really like their basil mojito, made wi tequila instead of rum, and the service is excellent. Can't wait for our next trip!

“Casually elegant and elegantly casual”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

We (party of four) visited Mar Plata at the end of February. It was less than a 2-minute walk from the house we had rented but it would've been worth a 2-hour forced march. The ambience was truly unique - from the arty, whimsical decor to the eclectic music selection to the inventive lighting. Warm and friendly reception and service were just the start for a great evening. Good selection of wines, wonderful fresh bread and a shared appetizer (camarones, of course) were prelude to the main courses. I can't comment much on the menu as 3 of us opted for the seafood pasta while our fourth chose the special (bucket o' mussels in white wine accompanied by a jar of delicious french fries). Our pasta dish also had mussels as well as a perfect chunk of mahi-mahi, oh, and more shrimp. A bit pricey in San Pancho terms but great value by North American standards. Hey, you're on vacation; treat yourself!
