It seems odd to be critical about a restaurant that I have visited a dozen times but it needs to be put in context given the over generous reviews about Yangs
Barry is Wales' largest town and I bet the only town in Britain of it's size without a cinema,DIY superstore and anything resembling a very good restaurant.
With the demise of Egerton Gray , the reason I go here is because the choice is so limited.
On entry you immediately spot that the red paintwork is liberally splashed with white paint. You then enter the restaurant and in the reception area you are greeted by loads of take away delivery bags. On perusal of the decor in general, paint is splashed everywhere and I have noted a small scruffy side table outside the gents which is just covered in paint, serves no purpose and has been there for years! The toilets look ok but on closer examination are dirty.
The food is not good , it is just good value . The starters with the exception of spare ribs which are very fatty are pretty good The Crispy Duck is just very dry and has not gone through the normal cooking process to get it right.
The generously portioned main courses are in general very bland .
This restaurant is run on a shoestring of staff and is often on the cold side one waitress Lilly who is a delight has to run off and answer the telephone for take away orders.
I would not question that this is the second most popular restaurant because the area is severely lacking in decent places to eat. I note that there is no number one restaurant in Barry on Trip Adviser and whilst this is an obvious mistake,is it?
