“Good place for a short weekend break or easy access to Cardiff area”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

Having finished a meeting in Cardiff on a Friday lunchtime we decided to spend a night locally and get a bit of sea air for a short wekeend break so we picked Barry Isand at random. Brand new hotel , large and very modern with normal Premier expectancies - spotlessly clean, same layout as all their hotel rooms so you feel like you have been there already and very helpful staff.
Reastaurant is large and felt like a diner, not so good for a couple like us but brilliant for families which i think it is more aimed for and lots of special deals and packages. We eat off the main menu and the food was outstanding and well priced, even the wine and bar. Just six miles from where we had been in Cardiff and then only two miles down to the beach , shops and amusements at Barry Island itself. Hotel views aren't special but its positioning to get everywhere is ideal. If you like shopping there are several superstores just down the road and main shops not too much further away. Will happily stop there again. Good to see lots of close disabled parking spaces and good width access and lifts for older and less mobile visitors.

on arrival we were checked in and pointed in the direction of our room so far so good
we arrived at our room only to find there were only 3 beds and there were 4 of us !!!!!
i went back to reception to make them aware of the situation and Emma on reception was
fantastic in sorting this out for us after draging a bed down the coridor i would just like to point out that she was on her own at a busy bank holiday period i think this is some thing premier inn need to look at .but i could not fault this premier inn only opened in october the decor as you would expect all mod cons air con kettle extra pillows tea and coffee digital tv wifi and the breakfast for £8.25 per adult children eat free was as good as ive had anywere this was just across the way at the brewers fayre cereals full english toast fruits yogurts and costa coffee all in all a superb over night stop would recomend to any one

Booked 2 family rooms for our 3 kids (+2 adults). It was to be 1 night stay on Sat of a bank holiday weekend. We turned up at about 7pm only to be told only 1 room was available. Check in lady was very clear that there was only 1 room. She had a print out of all the rooms with names etc and only 1 room had our name on it. I showed her the email confirmations showing we had booked 2 rooms. As it was late on a Sat evening there was no manager to sort this out. We were in no mood to find another hotel. She was very helpful and suggested we get an extra mattress into the room as it was only for 1 night. We agreed after my wife checked the room out. I had to help her get an additional mattress into the lift and down 2 floors. All this took about a couple of hours. Kids were irritated and desperately hungry. You get the picture. Anyway after settling into this single room she pops in 30 min later to say that there was an error and we were correct all along in that there were 2 rooms available. After all that, it was a relief to get the second room. After that unfortunate experience our stay was fine. Hotel is basic but functional and felt safe. Enjoyed a walk to Barry Island and a nice meal in a Turkish place in Barry. Would have been happy with everything were it not for the check in experience. I still don't understand how it happened. No clear explanation from PI. Either way, we were there for a christening and to see the Dr Who experience and wont let this spoil our memories of a fond weekend in Wales.

New Premier Inn in Barry was well appointed - very clean, comfortable and quiet. £25 cheaper than staying in PI in Cardiff city, which is only a short journey by car away. Children had breakfast free with paying adult - £8.25 for all that the three of us could eat! The children's beds in our quadruple room hadn't been made up before our arrival, but this didn't take the shine off a pleasant stay.

This is a new Premier Inn and it is just as good as older Premier Inns. Very friendly and welcoming staff, good bedroom (standard Premier Inn but no criticism there). There is a Brewers fare next door which on the night I was there (Sunday) was providing a carvery which was very good.

Breakfast in the Brewers fare was well up to the usual Premier in standard which is first-class.
