While passing through Welshpool we took the opportunity to take afternoon tea at the Bay Tree. What a pleasant surprise! A lovely experience with an appealing retro decor. The service was friendly and welcoming. The food and drinks were lovely...overall well worth a visit.

Really, really smart idea this. Welshpool has many cafes, many of them OK, so you need something special to stand out.

They have taken the shell of a basic shop unit and given every nook and cranny its own identity and feel. Literally, a room for every mood and occasion from chintz to nostalgia.

So even before you get to the food drink and staff, it's worth visiting for the effort put into the design itself.

This is a small, friendly team that deserve to succeed, with a good range of food and drinks, and cakes that seem homemade - no Brakes Brothers vans turning up here, it feels.

It's easy to miss, as bang in the middle of the street, but it is well worth hunting down.

Had lunch here on Friday with my family. Homemade soup with cheese scone was lovely but the red velvet cake was absolutely fantastic. Also impressed with milkshake served in old fashioned glass bottle with straw. Looking forward to our next visit

Whether it is just morning coffee, a breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea then if you are in the Welshpool area of Mid Wales call in at the Bay Tree Tea Rooms in Church Street. Excellent home made cakes, great value meals served by very polite and professional staff.

Each room has a different ambience with decor and furnishings that are somewhat different - a chandelier made out of cutlery, tea cups and saucers upside down on the ceiling, railwayana, vintage signs and so much more! I call there regularly and every visit has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. With more and more food establishments opening up to survive one needs to be different, this one certainly is and the prices are extremely fair.
