“A warm and friendly welcome awaits”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

My wife and I travelled a round trip of 76 miles for this Anniversary meal, then discovered they only took cash or cheque payments, so a frantic search through the wallet, purse and car we managed to rustle sufficient funds (£23 in coins!!). The panic was unnecessary as the host insisted a posted cheque would have been sufficient and not to worry and just enjoy the evening. The two waitresses (one on her first night) were very friendly and efficient. We settled in the comfortable lounge with nibbles then stepped into the restaurant where we had the 7 Course taster menu. Each course was well presented and accompanied by edible flowers - which was a unique experience. Highlight for me was the twice baked souffle. Highly recommended and we will certainly be back.

“Lucky to have this nearby!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

This is a unique little place. Since we last visited, they now offer a tasting menu which starts with the home made nibbles in the lounge on arrival whilst you enjoy a pre dinner drink and peruse what treats lay in store for you. You are then invited across the hallway into the friendly and cosy atmosphere of the dining room. It's actually nice not to have to choose what you want to eat .... just sit, relax and await one delicately prepared and beautifully presented course after another! Everything looked so pretty and tasted even better. It's all rounded off with a good cup of coffee and a lovely selection of petit fours. Customer service is excellent and the whole ambiance is so nice. They are very busy and deservedly so - so book early. We already have our October date confirmed - so that says it all.

“Lovely relaxing venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

A warm and friendly welcome with nibbles in the lounge. The range of seasonal food was well prepared and presented. The staff have to be complimented on their attentive though not over intrusive approach. Though the courses were smaller than normal (as expected when partaking in seven courses) they were well thought out with a good range of fresh fayre. An excellent venue and one we will be visiting again

“Interesting order of food choices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

Excellent choice of venues to share an evening with friends. We had an intimate welcome and sitting for the first course while our table was prepared. We then sat down to the second course and so on. Very friendly staff and well presented foods of both cold and hot courses. I thought the small dining room was quaint but could see the on goings of the kitchen when the swing door opened which also revealed a walkway occupied by a cat...wouldn't like to think it was a visitor in the kitchen. Overall the evening was value for money and seven small course is better than a large meal anytime. Well done!

Thank you for your review. Here at Upper Rectory we take great care to maintain the highest standards possible. As our restaurant is within the lounge and dining room of our home, you will see the internal workings of our kitchen from time to time, this is unavoidable, especially if you visit the loo, located at the opposite end of the hallway that you mention in your review. We are exceptionally proud to have been awarded the highest hygeine score of 5 from our Enviromental health officer and would certainly never allow our cat into a professional cooking area.
We look forward to welcoming you again at Upper Rectory.

“Good grub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

We have eaten 3 or 4 times at this restaurant over the last 2 years and have enjoyed a consistently
excellent dining experience throughout. We recently went there for a special vegetarian evening meal (we're not vegetarians but enjoy trying different food styles), and it was superb. As usual, in addition to the high quality of the ingredients and their preparation, the generous helpings and friendly service made it an evening to remember. If you enjoy dining in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with excellent food, Upper Rectory should be high on your list.
