“Perfect B&B!”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

My cousin and I stayed here to visit a bereaved relative in Welshpool. What a find! We could not have been made more welcome. The room was superb..and it is the cleanest bathroom I have ever seen. Beautiful toiletries were provided, as was fresh milk for our tea. The breakfast was delicious - with local, free range sausages, eggs and bacon. Wonderful. The wood burning stove was lit especially for us although we were the only ones staying. Our relatives came round to pick us up and were invited in and offered coffee. We did not want to leave the warmth and comfort of the beautiful lounge. The views from the b&b are also superb, and it is really handy for Welshpool. Will definitely be back! Thank you so much, Vickie, for going the extra mile.

It was an absolute pleasure to have you both staying with us and we are very, very pleased that you think The Old School 'perfect'! We do our best to go the extra mile and judging by your review it is all worthwhile. The autumn and winter have a beauty of their own here and the log burner makes for a very warm welcome for everyone. We hope, very much, that you both come and stay with us again, although it is a long journey for you. Next time bring the rest of the family.
Many thanks for taking the time to write a review.
Best wishes ti you both
Vickie

We are always very pleased to know just how much our guests have enjoyed their stay and you are obviously no exception! It was a pleasure to have you all here and to cook for you. As you took both of our rooms you had our guests accommodation to yourselves and clearly enjoyed being able to relax in front of the log burner. Our special thanks go to Tammy who's company made for such a great weekend end.
Come back soon.

We spent a night here on the way to Fishguard and the ferry to Ireland. I made the reservation online based on recommendations on Tripadvisor since it was a convenient place to stop between Chester and Fishguard. Since I like to know what to expect before I go, I will share the details that were important to me.
Cleanliness: Very clean
Decor: Pleasantly rustic, like a country lodge
Space: On ground level. Bedroom very large with armoire and dresser. King size bed. Next to dining room and sitting. Door to outside. View of garden.
Bathroom: Large and attractive
Shower: Good
Breakfast: Good. Cereal, fruit, and full breakfast to order with tea and coffee.
Hospitality: Very friendly. Vickie was very hospitable serving tea, coffee and cake upon arrival. Gave suggestions to a nearby pub for a light supper.
Location: About 5 miles out of Welshpool in the country but easy to find. Just an overnight stop for us.
Ease of finding: Directions were good so no problem even though our GPS wasn't working.
Price: Very good.
Bed: Taste in beds is personal. I like a firm bed. This king bed was lumpy but not so uncomfortable that I couldn't sleep.
WiFi: It was very important to us that we stay connected through WiFi, so this was an important detail when I made my reservations. We were unable to connect while we were there. Although another guest was able to connect if he sat in the entryway, I was not able to do so.
Parking: At front door in large gravelled parking lot.
If I didn't give this B and B an excellent rating it was because of the WiFi which was important to me and also the bed. These two items are personal to me so read the rating accordingly. I did enjoy watching the birds in the birdbath outside the patio doors.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us as you certainly had a busy schedule! We are, as always, very pleased that you had so many positive things to say about us. As for the wifi we are, to be honest, not sure why you were unable to connect to it but apologies for the inconvenience it caused you. Our other guests, as you mentioned, were able to access the internet from our reception/ entrance hall. But this was because they said they preferred to enjoy the unspoilt view rather than use their hard wired connection which is in both rooms and for which we offer the loan of cables. We are in a rural location and occasionally our signal and broad band speed can be less than perfect and this may have affected your ability to connect. As for the bed, we are sorry you didn't find it to your liking. Our mattresses are very high quality and recently purchased but as you say it is a matter of personal preference. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday and although your stay was very brief it was a pleasure to have your company. Many thanks, Vickie

Beautiful spot, home made preserves, good cooking and a wood burning stove to dry our wet walking boots by. Very sociable host, hostess and chickens! Will definitely revisit if we're in this area again. Jenny, Mike & David

Thank you all for taking the time to post a review for us. As walkers, (and soggy ones at that ) you found our accommodation suited you well. There is nothing like coming in chilled and wet and getting warm by the fire, then enjoying a meal without having to go out again. We really enjoyed your company and hope to see you again.
Many thanks, Vickie and Tim

My husband and I stayed for one night at The Old School B&B to break the journey on our way to Holyhead for the ferry to Dublin. Vickie was certainly "the hostess with the mostest" and it was a wonderful start to our holiday staying at such a beautiful house and given such a lovely welcome. Everything about our visit was first class - scenery, room, comfortable bed and super evening meal and breakfast. Would love to return and stay longer! Thank you Vickie.

Room Tip: If the other room if as good as the one we were allocated I can make no other comment!!

You are very welcome! We do try to offer all our guests a first class stay in every way and it looks like we achieved it here. We cannot, however claim credit for our wonderful scenery. This comes as standard and is unspoilt and beautiful at all times of the year. Thank you for your appreciation and perhaps your next visit will be a little longer. Very best wishes to you both.

We had the pleasure of staying at The Old School for four nights. It was not long enough. The standard of the accomodation was exemplary and bettered only by the excellence of the service and the quality of the breakfasts. For that alone I could take Vickie home!! To find such outstanding value in the middle of knowhere was unexpected. This is an example for all such establishments should aspire to. The landscape is also a delight to behold.

Thank you for taking the time to show your appreciation. It is very important that we get feed back from as many guests as possible so we know we are doing the best we can. Thank you for mentioning our breakfasts for which we use the very best local, free range bacon and sausages and eggs from our own 'girls'. We had a very relaxed weekend in your company and would love to see you again.
Many thanks to you both

It's impossible to draw any distinction whatsoever between the service provided and the accommodation standards at The Old School. Both are absolutely exemplary and display a standard that others should all seek to emulate. I cannot draw any real comparison between this and any other B&B that we have visited in the last few years, purely because there is actually no comparison. It doesn't get any better than this. As can be clearly seen from the reviews, this is a very popular place to stay. Consequently we now book 12 months ahead to ensure that we can get the dates that we require. Now if only Vickie and Tim could guarantee the weather ;O))

Roy & Jan Holt

Room Tip: No need! Both are beautiful with nice views from the shared lounge with its wood burning stove

Even with regulars visitors like yourselves, who return year after year, it is very reassuring for us to know that we are keeping up our standards. Such great comments from such lovely guests makes all the hard work worth while. We 'll see you both next year.
Many thanks
