“A lovely day out”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

We arrived in the morning a.d stayed for the entire day. The food in the restaurant was very good. It was simple and made up of local produce. There were children's activities including face painting, races in a labyrinth and dressing up contest. The gardens are amazing and the contents of the house interesting.

“Beautiful gardens and fascinating displays”
Reviewed June 14, 2011

Spent an afternoon here intending to mainly look at the Clive of India displays. We didn't know anything about the gardens but when we got here the weather was perfect and the gardens breathtaking. The Clive museum is interesting, well laid out and has some amazing exhibits. The gardens have spectacular views and cover a variety of styles including less formal areas that the kids can relax and play in. If I remember correctly there are holiday cottages for rent in the lower garden area.

“Fabulous gardens!”
Reviewed June 12, 2011

We arrived at Powis Castle about 4pm and admission to the castle was closed for the day but the gardens, outside and cafe/shop were still open until 5:30pm. The formal gardens around this fabulous home are spectacular! There is a lovely courtyard and cafe/ shop. We enjoyed it and was worth finding. Parking and admission were free for National Trust members.

“Spectacular Castle and Grounds”
Reviewed January 6, 2011

We stayed in a holiday cottage in the grounds of Powis Castle for a week which gave us free access to the castle and grounds so we became quite well acquainted with it! I would thoroughly recommend this National Trust owned property for a great day out. As with all NT places it is immaculately maintained. It is surrounded by a large deer park and there are formal gardens as well as a wooded area, meadow and pond area to explore. A good deal of the castle is open to view with all of it's historical relics. They have several different trails for children to follow and a couple of nice tea shops and a gift shop. There is also a lovely big field where people sat and ate picnics and played ball games. The only down side is that there are masses of steps to get from the castle to the gardens, or an alternative long steep slope. When we were there they were planning a complimentary land train to take people up and down the hill but that was not yet operational in May 2010.

“Spectacular Gardens at Powis Castle.”
Reviewed June 21, 2010

Powis Castle is situated in Welshpool and has the most spectacular gardens that i have seen.
You get your tickets from the information centre in the the carpark and then follow quite a steep path round to the entrance of the castle and gardens.
As the castle didn"t open until 1pm, i decided to look around the gardens first.
The gardens were absolutely stunning and you get a different view of the castle from every point of the garden.
As you enter the garden terraces, you get stunning views of other parts of the garden below and the scenery beyond.
The various colours of the plants and trees were amazing and the Yew Topiary was spectacular to look at.
The gardens by the cottages were colourful with Delphiniums,Roses and Hollyhocks and the arches of grapevines acted like a shelter on such a hot day.
At the rear garden by the huge gates, there is a water fountain and from this part of the garden you can get a full view of the castle and the terrace gardens that surround it.
It took me about 4 hours to look around the gardens, but i do like to take alot of photographs!
You can picnic on the lawns or have lunch in the coffee shop in the garden or the restaurant in the courtyard.
The castle itself was very interesting to visit with plenty of information situated in each room, as well as members of staff who were happy to answer any questions.
The Clive Museum was equally as interesting with its displays and collections of Indian art.
The best part of my visit was the gardens and i would highly recommend Powis Castle and Gardens for a great day out..
