This was our first time on a Steam Train and we had a great time. If you are really desperate to get to Llanfair at a specific time then drive. This journey is all about the experience; not how long it takes. There are cushions on some of the seats (remember this is not a new train, but a steam engine and carriages from another era), but we spent all of the time standing on the footplate behind the engine. Or looking out the windows on both sides of the carriage at the scenery and dodging the occasional bush that was a bit close. The sound of the engine and the whistle were fantastic and all the staff and volunteers were very friendly. When all the volunteers on the train have grins as big as yours as the train chugs along then you know they really enjoy what they are doing. Many thanks for a great experience, it made our whole weekend worthwhile.

I had not been on this railway since a child, and I had forgot what a great trip and countryside was along the route, We visited as a family and my 6 year old daugther had a great time !! Even got to try on the guards hat - we also had a great driver ! We also had time prior to leaving the station in Llanfair for tea and homemade cakes. ! Worth a visit

Took my Dad for a ride on the railway for Father's Day and we all had a great time. We rode all the way out on the back balcony, giving wonderful views of the surrounding scenery. The dogs were welcome too!

On our return to Llanfair, we enjoyed lunch in the lovely tearoom (after walking the dogs in nearby Deri Woods); yummy cakes!

Overall, the staff were very helpful and friendly, the train beautifully turned out and the food delicious.

Note - this is a coal-fired steam railway, so be prepared to get covered in smuts if you stand outside!

This is a small quaint railway. A lovely journey from Welshpool to Llanfair and you are taken on a 1 hour steam hauled journey to llanfair carienien, back, with a stop in between to visit the shop and get a cup of tea and cake in the tea shop.
lovely views from the train that you cant see from the road, cost acceptable it is good for taking pictures.

The train carriages are comfortable to ride in for the duration of the journey through the beautiful scenic route, although you wouldn't want to travel great distances on the bench seats provided.
The steam engine was visible through the windows of our carriage and it was fascinating to watch the driver teaching a gentleman how to operate the train. You can pay for a days driving experience if this is your thing. There is a little children's playground across the river outside the station.
Interesting locomotives and rolling stock, Some of the carriages are ex-MAV [Hungary} and others ex-Zillertalbahn [Tirol]. There are some freight wagons.

No reasonable request appeared to be too much difficulty so long as it was safe and legal!
The volunteers are doing a very good job and really do do well, an excellent day out.

I realise such attractions are in the main run by volunteers and they did a good job. However the seats on those ex Hungarian Carriages were far from comfortable. The scenery on the ride was pretty stunning but it needs something of interest at the other end other than just a café.
