We have been going there for so many years and had some brilliant meals, decided to try since it has been taken over. Sorry to say that the quality and innovation seems to have gone, menu completely changed. Food was OK and service very good but not the same.

Visited with friends local to the area. There was one other table of diners though they left soon after we arrived. The weather was not good though so could have kept people away.

The food was above average and there was a fair wine selection. We had a starter and a main each. There was a good selection of specials but not many starter choices.

Maybe it was the weather but our waitstaff was also our chef. Food took a while to come out but was tasty.

No, it's not what it was, but then the imaginative and quirky restaurant of before must have been a hard act to follow. Problem for the owners if that there are quite a few eateries here now, hence lots of competition. However for a reasonably priced lunch without any need to book, it's worth a try. I had a ploughman's complete with Monkland cheese, a good local make and for about £4 thought it was reasonable. A lovely apple juice to accompany. However Mr P although it was his choice wasn't too enamoured of his sweet potato and pepper soup, which was (perhaps not surprisingly) too sweet. At least the bill was under a tenner....

We popped in for a sandwich at lunchtime, very pleasant staff and lovely food, nicely presented and lots of it. We would definitely go back if we were in the area again.

This was our first visit to the Hat Shop and we feel seriously misled by their website which now see represents the previous proprietors. What a massive dissapointment. Plain, rediculously overpriced, unimnagative food. We won't be going again.
